If anyone is teaching at a public middle school and would like to start up a pen pal exchange program between our classes just pm me.
I think the students would like to write letters and receive mail.
Students that don't really have friends in their class can form a friendship with a student from another school.
Sometimes its easier to share thoughts with friends you don't see everyday.
It gives the students a chance to practice using English.
We (the teachers) can also exchange letters. These could be used as sample material for the students to copy the sentence structures from.
"Oh look. I got a letter from my penpal at Han Middle School in Suwon. (reading). Oh, some of her/his students want to exchange letters with our class. ...." |

I've received no interest in this idea. I'm not sure why. I think it would be a great motivater for the students. |

My students in one of my better classes are doing a letter exchange with an EFL class at a French school. I think they find that rather more interesting than writing to Korean kids they don't know. |

Hi Brian. I am currently teaching at a public middle school in Bangkok, Thailand. My students are absolutely crazy about anything Korean so I am sure they would love to have Korean penpals. Please email me as I don't have enough posts to PM you. josephfrancis80 AT yahoo DOT com

You should look at flatstanley.com.
It's a great website. I do this with my extra classes and they love it. In one week, they have gotten letters from other ESL learners in Germany and Canada.
They exchange photos, flags, stories, and some even send Korean snacks. We got a gift box from a school in Munich and you would have thought my students were given a car. They just went crazy over pictures, letters, and some German gummy bears. |
