check out these stats, pretty crazy eh!
the old Germans and Japanese hate themselves the most I guess, probably ashamed of their pasts (axis wwII)

seems kind of weird to see the Scandinavian countries up there, they have the best of everything, guess its too good for them. whats theyre deal!? theyre the envy of the world.

are you surprised to see America at the top of list ? I guess they still believe their country is good at something ^^ jk

interesting never the less

I wonder if this list would correlate with other lists regarding education standards or standard of living.

I'd guess that countries with betters standards of living and/or education standards would be less nationalistic.

edit: this list is 'not proud of their nationality' which probably changes that. Not proud is probably different from not being nationalistic.

I'm American and I'm proud. I've actually been shocked by the number of people that I've met here that aren't proud of where they come from, and the number of people that completely bash their countries. It's a shame.

Yes and no. Bashing countries could be seen as a such, but in general nationalism is fucked up and the sooner it disappears from the world the better.

I didn't say anything about Nationalism. I just think it's a shame that they aren't proud of where they came from. I'm not saying disrespect other countries and their way of life. I'm saying if you don't have respect for where you come from, then who will?

Respect, pride, nationalism -- they all get lumped together in discussions like these.

Respect -- sure
Pride -- no
Nationalism -- *beep* me

Ye, I second this. A bit of pride is okay but when it turns into blind nationalism and people cannot reflect critically on issues in their own country, well. . .it's a bit of a worry. Sad

Surely that survey must not include every country in the world.. there must be more countries with people whose percentages are not proud of thier nationalities that are higher than 20% than only 4... I wonder where Korea fits in, actually... Or what about countries in Africa such as Ethiopia or Congo? Brazil?

Notice how countries with the lowest birth rates on earth are at the top of the list. Countries with a strong sense of cultural pride tend to reproduce more freely. (South Korea's an exception)

I'd consider myself a patriot, but nothing pisses me off more than seeing people from my countries advertising their nationality and being knobs about it, which happens a lot here.

I'm about to move to Scandinavia and found it interesting how they like to make fun of themselves. For instance, in Sweden, if someone comments on another by saying he's being "too Swedish" - it means a negative thing. They also have something called Jante Law. It's basically an unwritten law that Scandinavians live by. (Note: This law is NOT directed towards foreigners, it's directed toward each other!)

The post-modern rule: Its okay to bash other peoples' countries, but do not be proud of your own country. Because being proud of your own country may indicate that you want to put discrete and insular minorities in gas chambers or fiery ovens.

What a silly time we live in.
