|
|
Frustrated by having to work long extra hours writing up student evaluations I decided to automate things a little. I made a website that speeds up the evaluation writing process. I thought I'd share it with other ESL teachers.
The address is http://www.esltool.com
It's free to use. I hope you will find it useful. |

This is fun. Too bad I'm not a teacher.

I don't know why Janjan is even trying to learn English. He has a great personality and attitude. However, he leaves his seat too often. His limited vocabulary makes it hard for him to improve in certain areas of English. He is difficult to understand. His poor reading ability is making it hard to learn new material. He doesn't like writing and finds excuses not to do it. He is starting to fall behind the other students. He should quit studying English! |

If we were allowed to be totally honest most might read something like mith's.
"Let's face it, your son is really lame and a pain to actually teach. So I give him word search puzzles and let him speak Korean to his buddies. Otherwise he might hate me and complain to you and want to quit. That would be bad for my boss, and he might give me a hard time for that. But now he enjoys the class because I let him do whatever he pleases, and he gets to chat and play with his friends. If you really think he is learning much English here, you are kidding yourself." |

Yes, on the evaluation creation pages it adds all the comments, as they appear in the drop down menu, in the text box at the bottom. Once you click "edit evaluation" the text gets processed according to name and gender. |

Whoa! Whoa! This is excellent!
I'm working for an IH school and we use a very similar system to this but using MS Excel. What you've set up far surpasses it. I'll be using it for the quarterly evaluations I'm writing tomorrow and putting up your URL in the teachers' room. |

I talked to my son, he is doing badly on purpose, because your classes are so very boring, and you give him to much homework, and you speak too fast and EVERYONE in the class doesn't understand you. Nobody in the class likes you. I would complain about to the director, but she is my aunt. When are you going back to your country? |

Thanks for all the positive responses! It's very encouraging.
I would also like to encourage you to send me more of your own evaluation comments so that I can add them to the lists.
Bulsajo: I created it using EditPlus, my favorite text editor, coding it by hand. I runs using php and javascript.
Enjoy |

Is it easy to make a search engine through php? Off-topic I know, but I've been wondering about that lately. |

This is very cool so far. I tend to handwrite mine, but there are some good lines to use in here!
I haven't had much practice with evaluations yet, and it looks like you've got all the sorts of comments I was using.
Thanks for creating this! |
