Hi guys,
Im going to be moving to Daejeon in two weeks and would like to know what type of weather to expect when I arrive. The reason I'm asking is because I'm in the process of buying all the clothing I'll need and need to know what kind of fall/winter clothing would be most appropriate for this time of year (also the winter time). Please keep in mind that I live in California and have no real cold weather experience

it will be damn cold for someone who's from California. I am too, and no matter how warm i try to bundle, I'm a big chicken when it comes to cold weather. I've adapted to 50 degree weather but the weather has turned quite frosty recently.
I suggest you MUST BRING a down coat. ITS ESSENTIAL. bring two pairs of gloves, one of them can be those cheapy fake cotton ones from target and the other pair should be leather.
BRING SCARVES. Beanies as well. just make sure your hands and head are warm.

alot of koreans are used to this frigid weather, so they just wear jackets, but im always wearing more. I 'd rather be warm than complain and die.

Warm clothes for the winter (it gets very cold), so a thick jacket and scarf, etc.

Summer is VERY hot and disgustingly humid, so lighter clothes.

And there's spring and fall. I guess bring a bit of everything, and you can shop here too.

It's gettin freezin cold out here. Temps are going down into the 20's each night this week. It's only 5 weeks and 3 days until Christmas so it's time for old man you know who to come crashing the shorts and tropical flower shirt BBQ party.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Yes, Korea has 4 seasons and Winter is the longest of the 4 seasons in this unique and unusual country that actually has 4 distinct seasons. (yes, really, many Koreans believe Korea is special for having 4 seasons, but don't know the fact that it's because Korea falls in the temperate climate band on the Earth and that temperate climates are common for the majority in the Northern hemisphere.) Ha ha I've actually taught this several times with a Korean teacher in the room to her astonishment each time.

Some good hiking boots and warm socks too. I find the cold and damp seems to climb up my body out of the ground. It is forcast to start getting a lot colder from this week apparently. Good luck.

Decent SOCKS!!! Definitely decent socks! All you can get here are light cotton socks (women's), athletic socks, or hiking socks.. There's NOTHING in between.. I mean like warm woolen-type winter dress socks that one would wear when NOT hiking... That's the one thing I stock up on each year when I go home to the states... So the BUZZ here is SOCKS! Got that? socks....

I am also from California and have spent the last part of my life teaching in the tropics.

I'm not convinced wool socks are gonna make the nut. I have to wear sandals at my school. Would it be approiate to ask if I can wear shoes inside? or maybe a pair of big puffy Doraemon slippers?

It's a temperate climate in korea. Summer's not too hot, winter's not too cold. expect to sweat a bit in the summer, to shiver a bit in the winter. It snows about 6 times a year. Bring a warm coat if arriving in the winter. Clothes are cheap here if you stay away from brands.

It doesn't snow where I am near the southern coast but some parts of this country gets below zero often in the winter months.

I found the Korean summer to be about the same temperature, but more humid, than in the midwest. From what I can tell, the winters are, on average milder.

here's the low down on the "four seasons"

winter (nov-mar): cold, dry, barren, brown, wind chill

spring (mar-may): "yellow dust" season

summer (june-oct): humidity, hot, sticky nastiness

fall (11/1-11/15): two weeks of decent weather
