Ok, now that the super cold has arrived, I'm starting to have problems with condensation again. Last year I left this relatively unattended and ended up with giant mold patches on the walls beside the window frame, which remain to this day. I want to avoid this kind of thing again. Lately I keep a small gap in the inner window (the outer window is also open about 30cm) to let some of the moisture out but it seems to be fighting back. Looking at it, it looks like it has literally rained inside with water dripping down the glass. I don't even use my heating, so it makes even less sense that I should be getting this much moisture. Is it due to the heating coming from the other rooms? I live in a relatively small, tightly packed area of buildings. |

uh, is it possible to move?
your building is not built properly. there's little you can do. maybe buy a dehumidifier? but to use in winter - wow - it's gonna be dry inside -
or turn up your heat and keep leaving that window open.
but you need to get rid of the mold and mildew - zap it with bleach -
good luck! |

I agree with the above poster. I know there are window stripping products that can be used on windows to seal them up to prevent drafts, but it seems as though your building is poorly insulated. The window stripping perhaps would help, although new windows and insulation would be better.
A dehumidifier would likely leave your apartment relatively dry inside, and the condensation would still occur on your window. |

buy a mould removal spray, spray before you go to school and then wipe it down when you come back, it works a treat but there is a strong bleachy smell of it that's why i suggest spraying and then leaving thr apartment!! |

Aye, if you don't have double glazed windows then condensation will happen. If you do then it could be insulation not allowing ventilation. You can get storm windows to fit to the front of the existing ones if the lack of double glazing is the problem; they aren't brilliant but they will help and they're quite easy to fit, too. |
