Just as the thread subject says, i think i might be looking to buy a gaming PC when i am in Korea. Im looking for a decent machine capable of running COD4, RA3 and other high end games. For all you gamers out there, how much do you think I will need to spend on a computer for good specs?

I apologize that I don't have prices, but I did want to give a bit of information about at least one place where I saw nothing but really nice quality systems, and that's in the Ipark center at the Yangsan station. I never saw so many electronic systems in one place before. The prices were all over the charts (high and low), and in a lot of cases the prices weren't even on them, which gave me the impression there must be a lot of haggling involved in the final price. Or maybe not. I was there looking for software mostly and didn't really find what I was looking for in the PC software department, although there was a goldmine of wii, ps2/3, psp, xbox360 and dreamcast stuff.

Don't buy, just build it...very easy and much cheaper....not to mention better chance the components are actually what is advertised since your buying the parts individually.

Buying a gaming computer rather silly IMO unless under the age of 13 or like to piss money.

Including monitor?

A good gaming 24'' widescreen monitor will be by far the most expensive part. 400,000 approx.

A good gaming PC can be built, sans monitor, for about 1,000,000.

3 choices of how to go about it......

1. Order from internet and build yourself..........that's what I do because I want full control over parts and assembly. I only trust myself!!

2. Sit down with a guy in a computer store and get him to custom-order and custom-build the PC.

3. Pick a complete system from a store or online. (worst option, IMO).

hmm I built a decent system for around 800 dollars. That played current titles alright (medium settings) might be extra 100 or two since I built it in the states (this was 1 year ago).

some games require the hardware (most fps games) that can determine how pleasurable a game is. Play Counter-strike on 10 fps, and then play it on 60fps, then at 100fps. You will see a difference (mainly in recoil drop)

sure you can build a low spec rig that would run everything on super duper low, but then again aesthetics do play a part in games...

and for those who want to go pro, you gotta pay to play (and vice versa).

It doesn't sound like he wants to play these games at 1900x1200 and at 60 fps with 6x AA....in which case around $700 would do ya. Just do your research before you start buying stuff.

You can also find the occasional gaming PC on sale used from other expats....I did that and it was a great deal...usually monitor is included.

SSD drives are awesome....anything else just slows you down. If you're going to game..them I suggest going hardcore. Too many gimpy systems out there that don't show the true potential of games as they were 'meant' to be played. You can buy 'average' systems for 800-1M won, but they can't do what a real rig can and you'll never really experience the feeling of really being able to game properly at least once in your lifetime. Average rigs are just toys that people buy until they realize they made a mistake & end up upgrading in the future to a real computer.

Why waste your cash on a 260... the 4850 is much cheaper and gives the same performance.. Heck go with the 4870

if the 4870 or 4850 were really better cards...I'd go with them. Hence I bought the GTX 260
