What do I need besides my passport (for a new E-2 Visa)?

How much in Yen does the processing cost?

Anything I should be aware about or consider?

Is this the one everyone goes to if they are changing jobs?

Most teachers travelling to Japan for a visa run go to Fukuoka or Osaka (cheaper and the embassies there are more efficient)..

basically - you need your -

- Your passport with remaining validity of at least one year + ONE empty page
- Visa issuance NUMBER - (example - SUBO-08020173)
- A completed Visa application form (at the embassy - they have this)
- One passport-size photo
- The visa fee of 6,000 Yen (approximately 60,000 KRW)

A good travel agent who specialises in "Japan visa-run" airplane ticket and hotel packages is -

(in Itaewon)...

They have visa run specials to Japan.

(Air-ticket + Hotel for visa run - less than 500,000won)

BUT do NOT go on these days (Public holidays - because embassy will be closed)

In Japan you need to make it to the embassy on before 12 and return to the embassy the next day around 1pm (to collect your passport).

the easiest thing is just to meet other foreigners at the airport when you arrive and follow them to the embassy....

Osaka visa run -

Helpful hints to know before leaving Seoul -

When going to Osaka it is highly recommended that you take a minimum of 20,000 with you. (en 20,000 ~ \on 200,000). You should have this already changed into Japanese currency (Yen) in Seoul
(do it at Incheon airport before you catch your flight) as it is too difficult to change money into Yen whist in Japan and also too difficult to withdraw money from a bank whilst you are in Japan.

The money is needed for the following

1,350 to take the rapido express from airport.
 6,000 visa application fee
 450 identification photo
850 to take subway back to airport.
 10,000 hotel and food

To save time at the embassy you should also take an identification photo (passport-style) photo. You can purchase these at most Seoul Subway stations for 5,000won in the small do-it-yourself- picture booths.

Upon arriving at the airport in Osaka, you should not waste any time but catch the rapido-express line 2 (2nd floor of airport) immediately to the Namba station. You will need to complete a form and submit it together with your passport, immigration certificate, visa fee and identification photo. You will then have to return to the embassy at 4pm the next day to collect your passport (with visa).

However, don't make the mistake of going to the embassy the following day at 4pm (to collect your passport/visa back) - as when you arrived you will be in a long queue (ticket number system) - you should go back to the embassy at 3:15pm the following day and take a ticket (to be in the queue) so you will be seen almost first at 4pm - when their window counter re-opens at 4pm.

You should then immediately take the subway back to the airport, so as not to miss your return flight to Korea.

Korean Consulate General Osaka
2-3-4, Nishi Shinsaibashi, Chuo-Ku, Osaka, Japan Tel: (81-06) 6213-1401/2/3

Office Hours: 09:00 12:00, 13:30 17:00 (Mon-Fri).
Time required for visa process: 2 days hours.

Osaka Visa run information

Prior to departure

▪ Check with the embassy in Osaka that they are not closed due to public holiday.

▪ Ensure that you have your Passport, Immigration Certificate, Identification Photo, Airplane ticket, and Cash in Japanese Yen.

▪ It is very important to travel to the airport early to arrive with a minimum of 2 hours before your flight is due. (This is for check in, security and Immigration clearance) Remember early morning flights have longer lines at the airport and clearing security and customs has been made more time lengthy lately.

On arrival at Kansai Airport in Japan.

▪ At Immigration when asked What is the purpose of your visit reply with To visit the Korean embassy. Also on your Disembarkation Form you will be required to write the address you will be staying at whilst sojourning in Japan write your Hotel name. (If you dont know your Hotel name just write Velta hotel Kitahama as they will not check but you need to write some Hotel)

▪ After passing through customs, if you are planning to return to Korea the same day, you must get a voucher exempting you from airport tax. You are not required to pay this if you are returning to Korea on the same day. (Kansai Airport tax is 4,000 (4,000 = \42,000)).

▪ As you exit customs area you will see an information booth directly in front of you. If you are feeling uncertain about anything, that is your opportunity to ask questions and clarify things.

Directions to the Korean Consulate.

▪ At the departures area of the airport, take the lift/escalator up to the 2nd (second) floor and walk across the small bridge to the Domestic Railway.

▪ Buy a ticket for the NANKAI RAPID ALPHA train., which will cost 1,350. The NANKAI RAPID ALPHA train is the high-tech blue train with oval-shaped windows. Its on line 2. Your seat no. is allocated on your ticket.

▪ Stay on the train until you reach NAMBA STATION, which is the final stop. This should take 30 minutes.

▪ On arrival at NAMBA STATION take the escalator down to the subway entrance one floor below. HERE you have to make a choice of 2 routes.

Option 1. leave the subway building via the glass doors on your left and follow the map (attached) to the embassy. This is a sightseeing 7-minute walk along a couple of streets and over one canal to the embassy

Option 2. you can follow the signs for the pink line (Sennichimae line) and look for exit 25, which is past the entrance escalator for the pink line. (on the return journey if you choose to take this route make your way back to exits 1 and 10, which are by the subway entrance stairs). Go upstairs and turn 180◦ and walk over the bridge past the sports store.

The Korean Embassy is easy to find, with a large Korean flag and police bus in front.
