Here's the text of a letter I had to send to the go-to at the 'company' that got me my job at SangHyeon Elementary, Suji. This, and the supposition in the post I made earlier--salaries going down and all that--make it difficult to consider continuing on in Korea. I can muddle and fumble through the economy at least this well in the US, where I'm from. And the apartments are bigger and cheaper.
Not that I don't love the 'culture and scenery', but prices aren't getting cheaper,and not all of us make the coin and have connections. BUT and because--most of us do experience something similar to what I've been going through. And believe me--the after-school program isn't that focused, organized nor disciplined that a guy or gal can overlook such trivial matters. I haven't been paid as of this moment.

That makes for a shaky footing to put a teacher upon, and that�s a kind way to say it; a roundabout way to express the fact that I�m not happy about being paid at such a late date. Does the school expect to pay me on the 30th of each month after this?
As I said, maybe you were not aware of this situation. That�s why I�m writing. If you were, can you explain further why the school seems to take liberties with my payment date? My idea is that the company should make effort to meet that pay date, then request that amount from the school.
Mainly, after this, I desire to be paid according to our agreement with the school: on the correctly scheduled day, or before, in case of Sundays or holidays. It�s especially important now, since September is a month with a 3-day holiday, beginning on payday, the 21st. I truly expect SangHyeon Elementary to take seriously my need to be paid on or before September 21st, 2010.
Please speak to the school about paying me on time. It�s very important. |
Is it beyond reason to announce that I'm going to look for another position, and to request a letter of release? My contract is until March. I get the feeling that that contract end will not arrive, anyway, for benefit of the school or company or something.
Being at a public school, I have to go through my company, which arranges everything with the school. As far as the school knows, I may not even be there teaching in our little corner of the school anymore if the company doesn't communicate with them every once in a while. Usually, it's my co-teacher who intercedes for me, anyway, with both the school and the 'company'. |

Whoa....I hope whoever you are writing to is really good at English. Simplicity and clarity are your friends when dealing with people in a language which is not their first. |

My public school paid me late too for the first few months.
They just forget because they are so disorganized. Anything that is different (your payday is different from the Korean teachers) throws them off.
I always got my money, but had to remind them. I agree that you shouldn't have to do that, but that's the way Korea is. |

Yeah that's way to wordy.
Just send them another one that says
"I did not get paid on 082110, 082710, as promised. My contract says I get paid on the 21 of every month. I don't want the same problem next month, I want my salary on the 21st of September. Don't pay me late. Thank you." |

| Public school paying late? Take it up with the school inspector for your district. There's absolutely no excuse in that malarkey. |

Arg, I too hate receiving late payment. It put tensions on the school and I because I usually get the provincial board of education involve. Is it petty or necessarily to get a third party involve for such a minor issue?  |

Thanks. That's a reminder flag for me. We get one week off for Chuseok, and the 21st falls in the middle of that week off. Time to make sure to get paid early, huh? |

Your attitude in the letter is way to aggressive and angry sounding. How is that working out for you?
Also, you make comments like the school doesn't know you are there and you have to go through a company. Why not make yourself known more often and have a relationship with your school? |

| Hmm...so you really don't work for the school? That means that your employer--the company that's placed you there--is responsible for paying you. |

| FredDaSked - I have a potential interview with this school. You mentioned in your post that your contract wouldn't be up until March. Does this mean you have put in your resignation? Any words of wisdom you could provide? |

I've got some. They've been paying late, which means they are in serious financial trouble, so working for them is a really bad idea. |

Very true. They get money from GEPIK, EPIK, or the school board in tht area to cover your salary. |

sounds like hes working for an after school program contracted out of an elem school so the boe doesnt pay him its the scheister who runs the after school program. that can be as bad as a hogwon in terms of not paying etc.
