hey all, I've been wanting to scratch my gambling itch for a while now and decided I'll hit up one of the casinos in Seoul.
From what I've seen in old postings, there are three in Seoul?
The Gangnam Coex one
The Seven Luck near Namdaemun
and Walker Hill over by Guri
Anybody have preferences among those three?
You have good overall experiences?
What's the dress code like, if any?
Any of them have three-card poker?
Thanks in advance! |

No sandals or shorts at Walker Hill. Never seen anyone refused entry at COEX 7 Luck.
If you join 7 Luck COEX (need your passport and ARC) you get free food and drinks after you place a bet. The food is awesome, so I usually go to this casino.
Haven't been to the other 7 luck, but it's probably similar.
Walker Hill has real poker, but as far as I know, it doesn't have 3 card, and neither does 7 Luck. |

Didn't know there were three casinos in Seoul...
I often visit the Walker hill hotel casino...
and just 2 weeks ago whilst I was there - I saw another foreigner (looked Canadian or American) walk in wearing a pair of shorts and sandals - no problem..
however - I have never really liked that casino - because the atmosphere there is not so good - and its FULL of Japanese male tourists all playing their money and chatting away in Japanese loudly at the tables..
Do tell me - are the other 2 casinos also packed with Japanese tourists - and is the atmosphere at the other two more friendly?
Can you drink at the other two casinos? (alcoholic beverages)?
At Walker Hill Hotel casino - there is NO drinking.. |

I play there all the time in shorts and a t-shirt....they really don't care.....plus, people take their shoes off all the time at the tables and walk around

I watch blackjack and I have never noticed the house winning so many hands as they do in Korea.
At least in Busan it is obvious that the percentage is off. My theory is if you were to see the deck there would be not enough face cards. |

Because Koreans can't go to casinos in Seoul (I think the one at High One resort is the only one they can go to), their websites are catered to foreigners, as are their staff, and you can see or call about all their rules.
Seven Luck in the Seoul Hilton on Namsan doesn't allow certain clothing, like shorts.
Remember to bring you passport. Just an ARC won't work.
They serve drinks...if you are gambling. Don't expect to go in and get served as a spectator.
It's a great way to get away from impolite locals. |

All the casinos in Seoul are geared toward Asian foreigners -wealthy Japanese and Chinese tourists. You'll find the staff at all the casinos a bit arrogant or indifferent to non-asian foreigners. They'll get ansty and do the Korean giggle thing if you try to speak to them in English or even in Korean. Nevertheless I do enjoy a trip to the casino now and then.
I prefer Walker Hill because of the size of the casino and wided choice of tables and dealers. The dealers don't seem quite as proficient and as professional as one would fine back home, but perhaps you could use this to your advantage. I dunno. Oh yes, you can indeed drink there.
The 7 Luck places require you to bring your passport to join the Mileage plan and qualify for any free food, etc. I had this arrogantly explained to me at the Coex location. My alien card wasn't good enough to qualify for their floopjack 7 Luck membership card.
If you ever play slots, Walker Hill seems to pay out a bit more often. I won 300,000won on one pull there once plus occasional 40-50,000won wins over the years. |

I find the staff at Seven Luck in the Seoul Hilton to be fine. If you bet at the 2,000 won blackjack table, of course you aren't going to treated as nicely as if you gamble more. But they don't discriminate. If they did, people wouldn't spend money there and unlike other Korean businesses, casinos respect customer service and loyalty.
I also call BS on the blackjack odds. People who come to Seoul to gamble could go to many other Asian countries. Casinos aren't stacking decks, at least not the Seven Luck casinos in Seoul. |

You kinda made a point and contradicted it in the same sentence
It's just been my experience that the Casino staff (cashier, coat check, dealers) in Seoul tries to put on this aloof act - regardless of the amount I'm betting. The tone in which they talk to the Asian gamblers and the demeanor toward them seems much more humble and sincere. I was as Walker Hill a few weeks ago with my 60ish parents. We were well dressed and we simply got a nod of acknowledgement at the door. The other guests got a "konichiwa, blah blah blah blah" bowing deeply greeting. I guess the Asian gamblers bring in the bulk of casino revenue, but what does that matter to a low-salaried coatchecker? Anyway, just my 2cents. Good luck to all! |

I had my WORST gambling experience ever last weekend in Jeju.
1st. Could only change 50 at the table
2nd. Pit boss "spun" the ball faster and faster (we were the only people playing at roulette) Apparently we weren't betting fast enough
3rd. Pit boss continually grabbed the ball and spun it before we put our bet down (once again, only 2 there)
4th and formost. PIT BOSS FUCKING DID THE KOREAN AIR SUCK THING EVERY TIME WE WON!!!! AND YELLED AT THE TABLE WORKERS!!!!
5th. After winning "too much" (according to pit boss).....ONE DRINK ONLY. (that was yelled at me by said douchebag)
6th. JEJU HYATT. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I'll be writing them a strongly-worded letter soon.
Seriously, it really sucked. If the GF wasn't there I would have stole/burned/shit on something.
I'll post more soon. Screw that place. |

haute, make sure the Hyatt corporate office gets wind of that, not just the Korean bosses at that particular casino.
Mention your letters to Lonely Planet and on the websites in Korea, you may get a comped weekend. |

I'm sure that people get around the Walker Hill dress code, but I saw two of my friends who turned up for a poker freeroll last year get refused entry.
LOL at people with magical ability to tell which slots pay more and what the blackjack percentages are. |

About the decks being stacked. The card dealing machines have three or four different wires going into them. One would think that all they would need was a power cord. Seems strange. Various wires may mean various decks being controlled. |
