I'll be moving to Korea to teach in Uijeongbu in mid-December and I just had a few questions that I don't really want to bother my recruiter with.
1) How do I open a bank account? Which bank would you suggest?
2) Do you suggest getting a second job? I know Uijeongbu has military bases and I figure I could get a job on base.
3) I'm 6' tall. I wear pant size 34/34. Am I gonna have a problem finding pants?
4) Has anyone been told they wouldn't have a key deposit or anything of that sort then when they arrived surprised with these things?
I'm sure I'll have some more questions for you guys in the coming days.
Thanks for your help |

1) You co-teacher/handler will go with you to open a bank account so dont worry there. Just take whichever they give you and you can always switch later on.
2) you on more than likely on an E-2 visa which means getting a second job will get you fired and deported. Its illegal to work another job, any job unless your employer pre-approves it and 99% of the time they wont.
3) You wont have the easiest time I can tell you that much. But I would be more worried about shoes than pants. Pants you can get custom made/tailored. Shoes not so much luck.
4) Its normal not to have a key deposit. Your employer will be covering all your housing needs and as such you dont have to worry about anything like that. Although it is always suggested to get a new door lock after you arrive to avoid any unwelcome visits as others have experienced. |

thanks.
I saw on my contract about teaching off-campus, but I didn't see that it explicitly stated any second job.
And I'll keep in mind about the locks.
If all else fails I'll just try to get pants shipped over. |

Is this public school or hagwon??
If its a public school that normally refers to the fact that you may have to work in several difefrent school locations. If its hagwons it might be a reference to having to do field trips and the sort.
The second job isn't so much a violation of your contract, although it normally is, its a violation of your E-2 visa. Your E-2 VISA which allows you access into the country states that you only work for one employer. In order to legally work a second job you need to have your E-2 VISA ammended to list that second job and that can only be done with your employers permission. |
