Does anyone know first-hand what sort of housing we can expect from EPIK for a couple? Anything fancy, completely basic..scary?

It all depends on the school and its location and administration.

No way to know for sure! I have seen great flats like mine Cool and lived in a holes before all with Epik.

Buddy of mine is in an old building with pink walls, gold flower patterns, old stuff and a few bugs.

But, there are things you can do if you don't like your place. And as a couple you sould get housing money for one of you. Depends on you your schools and locations. Nothing is set in stone here no matter what anyone says.

My wife and I are happy with our 2 bedroom apt. It is of course small but we like it the building is fairly new(maybe 8-10 yrs. if that) I have heard it depends on the school you get though.

I asked the same question about 10 months ago and got shat on by people here.

I won't do the same to you! Here's a description of my place:

I have a 1-bedroom. Kitchen has a normal sized fridge, 2-range stove, built-in table (attached to the wall) with 2 chairs, big sink, no garbage disposal (most places don't), 2 counter spaces, washer/dryer-in-one, Living area has a couch and some shelves, there is a big finished bathroom (but the shower is still just on the wall, there is no stall) bedroom has a single-sized bed, large tv and a entertainment shelf/dresser thing. My town is pretty small in Busan and my apartment building has 10 floors, 2-3 rooms per floor.

I asked my EPIK recruiter to email me some photos of a 'typical' apartment.

They sent me a set of photos the next day. The apartment in the photos was the bed sit type where the bed is in the same room as the kitchen with just the bathroom branching off.

I ended up with a three-bedroom apartment to myself with a half decent bathroom and a double balcony! Laughing

Like previous posters said, it totally depends. I could imagine it being a bit shitty two of you sharing a bed sit type apartment though, and even if you ask and get promised a larger apartment by your recruiter and/or EPIK they will be lying to you.

It is your school that sorts out your accommodation for you. You have a better chance of getting a larger apartment if you work in a smaller town/city!

You could even get a detached house if you`re really in the boonies.

So I can sign a contract that says couple's housing, but they can still go against it?

My apartment is in the middle of the spectrum, it's 3 rooms, furnished OK. Moderately quiet, but my idiot neighbors with a 1 year old think the hallway is their living room. Most of the EPIK apartments I've seen were pretty decent. Heard a horror story or two, but definately not the norm.
