There is some compulsory tax seminar for public school teachers in Busan today, I've been informed. Anyone have an idea about the details? The seminar is after school and I have other things which I need to do with that time.

I only get vague details about these things and so cannot evaluate well if it is worth my time. It's compulsory, but if it's not worth my time, I can find alternate definitions for the word.

Just don't go Shocked

I haven't heard about it yet. But, my school knows I won't go anywhere outside of working hours unless they give me 24hr notice.
I made that a rule right away. Smile

SO, I would just not go if you don't want to. but that's IMHO

That's my basic plan. Just making sure that I won't regret it financially.

Also, what is IMHO?

Did you understand what its about? That is, did you get more than a topic? Taxes? Is it useful to one who is soon to be out the door?

The official document was sent out last week to all the schools in Busan. Your co-teacher should have given it to you when she received it. If getting late notice is a frequent problem your co-teacher in charge of handling your affairs has other school jobs in addition to yours so she is undoubtedly busy -, you should insist that she makes a copy of each document she gets concerning your affairs and gives it to you day of. Even if you dont read Korean you can understand a lot of it by looking at dates and numbers, and you can take it to a less busy English teacher to translate. These documents are about you and your job so you have a right to get and read each one. Sometimes the office of education provides opportunities for NETs to go on trips or attend special programs, but often co-teachers dont pass on the information because they are too busy and it would mean more work for them if sign up.

Also, if you attend the meeting tonight, your school should pay a transportation fee of around 20,000 won. I have a car and have to drive from the other side of the city, so the money all goes to gas, but some of you can pocket most of it.

The meeting, I am told, concerns all kinds of payments not just taxes. If you have any questions about money issues, then this would be the time to get them answered. They might introduce changes for next year and I wouldn't be surprised if they try to stop paying us for camps and extra classes. If there are a lot of people there to express their feelings on that then we might have some influence on the outcome. You should never miss a meeting about your salary; it's common sense.

I'm out in Gijang as well. You should leave school pretty soon if you want to make it to the meeting on time.

Hmmm.

That may have been the topic of discussion when my name came up today. I wasn't talked to directly about it. What I caught or misunderstood was something like "Horangi won't go, private something or other" It may well have been related to another issue though.

I'm not going to ask now and lose my OT class!

The most useful thing was the conversation practice I got with the taxi driver on the way there. Once I got there, I learned nothing.

Should've kept to my OT class.
