As you know I am a Gentleman of Nobility and Utmost Conservative values in regards to Mores and the treatment of The Gentle Sex. Sadly Korea is filled with poor Lasses who sell their fine passes of Coffee from soft pillowed sacks that hold their decanters. I am upset that there seems no way I can save these kids from themselves and the desire of men to hand over cash for their company. At any rate, my neighbor next door seems to be addicted to their delicate coffee offerings. It has gotten to the point where I recognize their young scooter driver and we passingly say hello to each other as I go in and out of my apartment building. The same is true to the four different deliver girls who pass out there laid out creams and sugars for the apartment bound purchasers.
However, Jesu save my Black Heart, but today after I had so ever Righteously sworn over the good vows in my Chapel I was most sorely tempted by a girl rapping at my door.
Leee Nor
Ignore
I answered my door but 20 minutes ago and there before me was a 19 year old waif in cutoff blue jeans and tights with a tightly wrapped sweater begging entrance whilst clutching here superfluous purple bag of coffee product.
I assumed she was confused - yet she continued to parley but after again denying that I had summoned her she left out with a wistful smile.
I have a theory it is the devilish fellow on the scooter - who though I am sure is amidable towards me - is plotting to get me addicted to the coffee drinks his young charges offer - it is already known to me that this same fellow erantly discards scandalous business cards blazoned with "79,000 won." And I can only imagine he believes himself to be doing me a favor seeing as how he is in the refreshment business.
Or it could be the girl was simpily mistaken or likewise had in mind to take a charge from me. When I pass by these girls, in my apartment building, I do my best to acknowledge them with a neutral greeting - but I do not engage them on any terms for the protection of myself from their creams and broken sugar packs.
maybe I should make little sign that says no coffee / Watch Tower peoples....
I have to say I am disappointed in Korea and I wish I could somehow help these kids, but there is really nothing I can do for them - as far as I know there is no career / halfway house counseling centers that you often find in America for ladies down on their luck / hurt / / exploited by those who should protect them. It is disheartening for me. I just hope somehow it works out good for them and they do not turn out like the lady in the Korean Movie "You Are my Sunshine/Destiny"
Ahh well on the bright side of things I have yet to call on one of them nor had them come for me in my apartment. But, that does not mean Satan will cease his attacks on my Perfection and Greatness as an Upstanding Gentry Class English Master herein. Lucky I am no drunkard and wary of such weakened states of folly. |

Yes yes but bike shorts are needful it is part of the Ameican bike culture... And of course I must show my bike skillz off to my many Corean fans... but I still wish I could make all these kids wear helmets so at least when their insane drivers crash they not be slain. Jeju did have its questionable areas by the old Chinese Ship where the port was but luckily I managed to not be sequestered by those questionable hotel women either |

hmmm r u sure u r telling the whole story here? Did you, maybe, um... invite her in, whip out your digital camera, and then get her to take a photo of the two of you together, first? j/k....
yep, last time i lived in Korea, one of those coffee places was putting all its coffee girls up in my apartment complex (no, this does not say well of the kind of accomodations Gangwon-do BOE provided us in general hehe).. They were all really nice and most of try to flirt with you with a nice smile even if you are looking straight ahead and attempting to mind your own business... this is kind of nice; it almost made me feel i was in some other Asian country for just a sec such as Japan, Taiwan, or China.
Then, each day, a pimp would drive up in a tiny car with "gang won da bang" written in Korean on the side and take them off to work.. I was reminded at that point it is probably good i just minded my own business and tried not to reciprocate the flirt. One day, however, the friendliest girl left her underwears in the washing machine and I didnt see em so I washed em with my clothes... Then, I pulled em out and I knew they weren't my gf's because she doesnt have any winnie the pooh underwears... so, of course, being the nice guy I am, I went down to where I saw her entering her apartment one time and knocked on the door to give em back.. |

There was a guy up here in Gangwondo a couple years ago keen on biking. Showed up to class one day in his form-fitting synthetic biking gear.
His girl students were embarrassed to the point of covering their eyes.
K-teachers still laugh & talk about it incredulously as the defining moment of his year here. |

its still a good thing i had that gear and my bike as well.. there was no other way to get to and from work that first month -- a distance of up to 50km round trip -- besides via bicycle...
It's OK schwa, dont be jealous of the attention I got... haha j/k. R u still there at GWD? |

Hey what a fun thread. To the OP. Invite em in for a coffe, juice or whatever, and discuss your great concern for their welfare. I'm sure you will have an enjoyable time with them. Everything can be above board of course. You can even pay them to clean up your apartment and wash your clothes. Get some free Korean lessons from them too. I wouldn't feel sorry for them, because they probably earn more than you with out offering any extras for extra.
You could encourage them to save their money instead of blowing it on cigarettes and soju. Find out something from their backgrounds and write a book about them even. Most of them come from dysfunctional families, althouigh now and again you will find a student amongst them or someone who is sending money home to support her parents, brothers or sisters. |
