I've been offered a job in Dongtan, but I really don't know anything about it and I can't seem to find good information about it on the internet. I was wondering if anyone here had any opinions on it? How big is it? Is it nice/interesting/clean? Anything will help. Thanks a lot!

I've been living here for about 18 months (I'm not a teacher).

The Good
* Its a new city, so its pretty clean, new, good amenities.
* Pretty much everything you need is here, E-Mart, pubs, bars, shops, restaurants of all korean varieties. although if you are desperate for western food you might struggle. I'm pretty sure there is a subway here too.
* Central park is ace, big soccer pitch, rock climbing wall, tennis, fountain, skateboarding and roller skating park and some nice tracks to walk through smallish forest.

The bad
* No subway line, but enough buses to get around to seoul, suwon or bundang.
* Lots and lots of young families with young kids...maybe its a good point for some but in my apartment complex the noise level from screaming kids is insane.
* Lots of construction still going on here, metapolis (4 giant 70 storey towers) is nearly finished and once that is one i imagine the traffic levels will go up.

I would agree its probably one of the nicer places in korea you could end up.

What Mick said! I worked in Dongtan last year, but lived in Byeongjeom, more of an old town. Dongtan is all shiny and new, but I'd say it has less character.

when I say "there is a subway here" that is the subway restaurant, not an actual subway station. clostest subway station is Byeongjeom, and depending on where you live that might be 10-20 minutes by bus.

Well, just because the job is in Dongtan doesn't mean you'll live there. Most of the teachers here work in Dongtan but live in Byeongjeom. The few that do actually live in Dongtan are on the edge near Byeongjeom, and like Mick said, tons of buses. I've been here for 18 months and have enjoyed it quite a bit. What school is it, BTW?
