I was thinking about doing Shanghai for the Lunar New Year. Wondering if anybody has any info as to whether or not this is a good idea. Crowds/costs/accomodation/etc. Thanks |

I was in Shanghai for CNY last year, hotels were cheap and there were less people there cause they all went back to their hometowns for the vacation. Its a good time to go but of course over the main CNY days some sites will be closed. It was nice weather at that time. Watch out for the beggars with trained monkeys who will fleece you of your money in no time. |

Thanks Hightop. You're my Fred Astaire. I'm leaning towards taipei. the visa for americans to China is too expensive for a four day weekend. |

Two weeks? I'm just planning on a four day trip. Taiwan is looking a lot more appealing right now. Any info on Taipei? Anyone? |

Not a lot will be going on. A lot will be closed that week. Taipei wasn't all that exciting for me when I lived there (6-7 years ago) but for a few days, maybe it's all right to check out. Might be hard to go anywhere else at that time...
