I originally came to Korea for the money and I'm still here for that reason.

But I can also say I have moments where I enjoy teaching. It can be enjoyable.

In recent times, I think one of the major reasons I like this job is because I get to act like a total fool in class and it's not considered bad for me to do so.

If you're from the U.K. I don't know if you remember a kids TV show character called Grotbags. She was an old witch who would beat a crocodile for no reason at all, other than the fact she was really cruel.

Here is grotbags:

She'd be cruel for no good reason and would find any excuse to hit the crocodile. It was amusing to watch as a child.

Throughout my years in education as a student I came across many teachers who I felt were unhinged and truly schizo, a bit like my co-teacher.

She bad mouthes me to other Korean teachers in full view and then acts like she has done nothing wrong and then tells off some kids for their bad manners.

I feel many real teachers are a bit off because they are so lost up their own selves because they feel they are a 'teacher'.

In summary, nowadays I like to act stupid in class, its the only enjoyment I get. Unlike grotbags, I don't hit anybody.

But I pretend to be disappointed with my students when they misbehave and I shriek the word 'quiet' fairly regularly. In fact, I say it in such a stupid voice they get the joke.

What's your motivation?

Money.

Don't get me wrong, I still try to do a good job. Just wish my management knew what that means.

I didn't want to start my career yet. Just the calm before the storm... that is 20 years of military life.

If you eat your students, someone is bound to notice (eventually).

I can't stay in Korea otherwise.

Pretty much, each day that passes I like teaching less and less.

I came over to see be a bit of the world and try my hand at teaching. I stay because, overall I like Korea and I have some personal reasons to stay.

Cause it is the easiest job to get when you want to try living in countries other than your own country.

I came here for the money; I needed to pay off some debts and wanted to save some cash so I could move to Germany. I didn't know if I'd be able to hack the job if I am honest, and I certainly wasn't looking forward to getting up in front of 40 students every day.

However, now I've been doing it for a while, I actually quite enjoy it. Some of my classes are golden, others....well....it depends on the mood of the class when they turn up to my room (sometimes they don't try at all, other times they really engage with the lesson). I find running through a lesson plan pretty easy, the kids themselves can be really funny sometimes, and I like to see them having fun.

In my first month, I never thought I'd last 6 months, let alone the year. Now I'm planning on renewing my contract next spring.
