My question is: what do I need to bring with me, a routing number or just my account number in the States?

Also, I want to ask how much money will actually end up on the other side (in order to make sure the exchange rate they use is the same one I saw online that morning). I can look up some things in the dictionary, but I'd like to have some help from someone who's fluent on this one. What should I ask, to see how much money will actually arrive? I know they won't tell me without prompting.

Your need your account number(maybe routing number) and your banks Swift code. Also bring youI think thats what its called. If you go to your western banks website and do a search for international transfers you should be able to find it.
As for the amount arriving at home they will give you a reciept that should show all that. If not a little pantomime (pointing at the sign that shows exchange rate with a questioning look on your face) should give you the answer you need.

Goodluck
