Once again a co-teacher seems to be unable to give me a straight answer on this. I'm still waiting for my new contract to arrive with some sort of stamp from SMOE and am going home for a vacation soon and want to get this sorted before then.Basically do they just extend your visa and re-entry visa on the day for you? Is it 30,000 for the visa extension and then 50,000 for the re-entry visa?
Thank in advance ! |

Your information is correct.
For the sake of clarity though, its a "visa renewal" you'll be getting. An "extension" is short-term with no new contract. |

Yes, if you go the immi office to do it and there isnt a queue, you can be out of there in 10 minutes if your paperwork is in order. They just make a notation on your Arc regarding the extension and the multi-entry is a sticker they put in your passport. The fees you quoted sound about right.
Go to hikorea.go.kr and you can purchase your re-entry permit online and print off a certificate that you present at the airport. The extension might also be able to be done online, not sure though, but at least you can book an appointment time at immi so you dont have to wait if you need go there in person. You'll need a digital certificate (an internet banking certificate) to do these things online. |

if he is staying with the same employer it's an 'extension of sojourn' or as they refer to it on the online application, it's an 'Extension of stay for registered foreigners'. The short term extension with no subsequent job you refer to is the 'Temporary extension of stay for departure'. That one is free and you need an outgoing ticket that is not more than 30 days from the end of your employment.
I just checked and you can do your extension and get your re-entry permit online - you dont even need to go to the immi office. |
