Depends on the individuals but age does matter a whole lot more than in the west. It also depends on your other assets how willing an older woman would be to date you.
I had a 21 year old foreign friend here a few years ago and he was endlessly frustrated about the age thing being a barrier for him...I dunno how true it was though. |

I'm 25, my girlfriend is 29. She's probably the least Korean Korean I've met, though. |
I'm two years younger than my wife, although she's very un-Korean as well. |

i met a girl on the subway, but i found out that she's older than me by 2 years. her b-day is 81, i'm 83.
I read in one of those travel guides that koreans have like this seniority system in place.
*beep*, she definitely didn't act like a korean when she met me. and she's really pretty and short to boot. but i guess it makes sense that she's a bit short, since she's part of the "old" generation. fuckin' eh |
2 years aint much...most of the time i reckon they use that 'youre like a little brother to me' line just to get away from guys they dont like...if she likes you, 2 years is unlikely to make a difference. |

we met on the subway and i asked her for her number and contacts. she was very receptive towards me when we first me. she was grabbing at my wrists and we were talking a whole bunch. in the emails, she was really really forward, in some ways. a korean girl friend told me that her actions on the subway were very very un-korean.
but then i found out her age and she found out mine, so now i'm not so sure what's up. |
did anything change after she found out your age? if not, just run with it...
dont get too hung up on it... |

The first girl I went out with here was 29. My current gf is 27(I'm 23). So hasn't been a problem for me. |

Korean age is different since they start from conception.....so knock off about a year or so to get the real age. |

I'm 24 and have a 'friends with benefits' situation with a 33 year old.
It all depends on the individual. |

It's kind of a trend lately for Korean girls to date younger guys. Before I heard it was a no no.
So the answer is yes, and I know many couples where the girl is older. |

I'm not talking about a lonely 40+ year old desperate housewife.
i'm talking about a late 20s women, going out with a mid 20s guy. does it happen here?
is age a big "thing" in korea? cuz i heard that seniority is really important |
In my experience, many Korean women will go out with younger guys. I'm 21 and I've only ever dated older girls here, but I have a tactic for that which I settled long before I came to Korea (since I prefer more mentally mature women than my age range).
I ignore their questions about my age and then I tell them later on when I feel they're already strongly attracted to me. At that point it doesn't matter. Also it helps that I look about 26.
The caveat is that I have dated and prefer very "international style" Korean women who have studied or lived abroad. Usually they're more open minded to begin with.
