|
|
my aunt is sending me a package with my christmas present. I know a lot of people have complained about having to pay taxes on packages when they contain new items, is it correct to assume this is true with gifts as well?
What should i have her mark the package as?
Does customs get a lot more vigilant and inspect more packages near the holidays?
Thanks in advance. |

I had my mom send me a brand new item as a gift...I had to pay a 72,000W VAT on it. |

Just make sure there's n evidence that it's new (tags, packaging, etc).
She should specify gift and a value of less than the requirement for VAT.
Should be fine...although I'm sure the quality control at customs is a random system, so no promises, ok? |

don't mark as gift unless you include the words "USED" before. i have had my family send over 20 packages with thousands of dollars worth of new merchandise to myself and have never paid taxes. they always specify exactly what's in the box and write "USED" before every listing. "USED" clothing, "USED" PC, "USED" shoes, etc. haven't had a problem yet. the tags were also on all of the items. sometimes we throw in "USED" gift as an extra precaution. |
