In reference to flights, what is the general procedure when somethign like this happens? Do most airlines delay flights (by days or whatever) or is your flight gone for good? Does this depend on the type of insurance you have?

Dec 6 Thai Airways...I didn't want to take the chances of delays so I've changed destinations. Dude I"M bummed!!! Maybe next year...
