1. The exchange rate they offer you is probably wrong. Check xe.com
2. Signing for 2.1 will never be changed to 2.5 on arrival.
3. Posting your resume on a website with desired salary is more efficient than signing with a recruiter to find you a job.
4. Native English Teachers here will usually help you. Contact a few before signing.
5. Do not be in a hurry. Patience pays and you won't lose any dream jobs.
6. Hogwons are never 'Christian' in the sense you are thinking. My wife made that mistake. Wonderland is not a Christian missionary camp. |

to add to the last one here...
there is a "christian hogwon" in my town, that recruits christian teachers. the teachers come thinking they are doing semi-volunteer work to help poor or needy, or christian kids. they end up working absurd hours, like 60-80 hours a week, and have things like required church lessons that are unpaid, for low salaries (under 2 mil).
they are all quite surprised to find out that the hogwon is actually charging MORE for students than regular hogwons in town.
sadly, the owner is american. she is ripping everyone off under the guise of "christianity." and she is quite annoying. if her husband even sees you, he will rudely interrupt anything you are doing to ask if you are christian, want to work for him, or come to his service.
rant over... |

Most unfortunate. Christ modeled sacrifice and preached against greed. So many "Christians" model greed and preach about sacrifice.
Watch out and certainly do your homework.
Never sign for a house smaller than 10 pyong. (maybe the interior of a free-throw line)?
Confirm from a NET that the employer pays taxes and pension (you'll need to get it back)
Never give a recruiter your bank number or send any money. They are the employer after all. This should be a no-brainer. |

If they will not change the salary make sure you negotiate added benefits.
1) See pictures of the nice apartment with the nice furniture you will be living in.
2) Make sure they pay up front for the ticket.
3) Get some extra vacation.
4) Guarantee you are not an independent contractor.
5) Ask for a cell phone.
6) Free lunch at school.
4, 5, and 6 are worth about 2M. 1 and 3 will make your stay enjoyable. 2 is protection from losing a lot of money. |
