Hi guys
This is a question about Windows XP, English version
I bought an EEE PC 1000H at Yongsan and it has the Korean version of Windows XP. This is the case with all the netbooks/mini-notebooks here in Korea except for the HP one.
I asked if they could install Eng. windows but they said it wasnt possible (not sure if he was correct about that)
I do have an older HP laptop with a copy of English Windows XP installed.
My question is, since I had already installed that English version on my HP notebook previously, is it possible to install it again on the EEE with the Windows key, EVEN after using it already on my other HP notebook?
Thanks |

it will be fine until you go to register or use it online. Using similar or like keys makes windows angry at you. |

I'm sure someone here will know the answer. I have not yet asked my friend who has done this, but will try and remember to do it sooner than later.
Here a site I found online:
http://www.eeeguides.com/2007/11/installing-windows-xp-from-usb-thumb.html
If you are not technology comfortable, I'm sure some one on this forum can help you.
And for other future buyers: Always request for the English version.
I'll post again if I have anything more helpful. |

I'm not exactly sure what your question is. Are wondering about the possibility of installing English XP from your other computer's disc to your Eee PC or the legality of doing so?
Most likely, if you install English Windows from your HP computer on your Eee pc you'll get some sort of error when you enter the serial key and try to register. You are then instructed by the computer to call a number and confirm your key. If you're moving the software from one computer to another you may be able to get around this and you may not (legally).
When you buy a copy of Windows it can have a couple different kinds of software licenses with it. If you buy a shrink wrapped version of the software, generally (but not always) you're allowed to install it on multiple computers as long as you uninstall it from one before starting to use it on another. If it came included with a computer you purchased though, generally the license applies only to the computer it came with and you're out of luck if you wanted to install it on another computer whether or not it's still installed on the first computer.
That doesn't mean you can't install the HP, English version of Windows on your Eee pc and make it work, just that you probably can't do so legally.
I bought my Eee pc 1000h in the US so it came with an English version of Windows XP but I went ahead and installed Vista on it just for fun. Here's some info on how you can install windows without a CD/DVD drive.

As for finding a valid cd key or finding a way to make windows work without one, check google. |
