If you're still paying on your student loans, and dreading the chunks of change you're losing in the exchange rate, you don't have to be paying right now. Your interest may or may not continue to accrue, depending on your loan, but if your loans are at low rates like mine (average 3.5%) than you can hold out for 12-15 months while studying and as long as the won improves by that much or more, you will have saved money.

If you have loads of consumer debt...well, getting deep into consumer debt should be a lesson in itself. It feels great getting out of it though, so focus, make a plan, and good luck!

Which side of the ocean are you writing from?

Everybody knows that if you study full time then you can qualify for an in-school deferment.

Good idea but a few things to consider:

If you use the wad of cash you've accumulated here in Korea to pay for a semester or two's worth of tuition and housing, you should probably be working PT to cover your monthly expenses.

You are obviously forgetting costly transportation and insurance - auto & health.

Don't forget food, utilities and entertainment.

f you are American, you can defer your federal loan for up to 8 months. You need to contact this website.

They will have you fill out a paper online and submit. You should tell them that you are unemployed and looking for a new job or applying for a new job.
