Can anyone give me an official link on the F-2-1 visa? I've read some threads on it in the faq forum, but a lot of it is personal rememberings and a couple people mention its not on the immigration website (and I didn't see it there last time I was there)
as well can anyone tell me if I have an F-2 (or F-2-1) visa am I allowed to be a student without getting a student visa on top of that or would I have to acquire a student visa in addition to the F-2? |

I've read about the F-2, but I was told the F-2-1 and the F-2 were different, I'm trying to figure out exactly what the difference is between the F-2-1 and the F-2, what it allows you to do, additional requirements, etc |

IF you have an F2 you no longer require permission from immigration to engage in any LEGAL activity.
There is no link - you would have to look in the immigration department's policy handbook.
Restrictions on LEGAL activities were partially removed in 2005 and fully removed in 2007.

So by legal you mean working, school, owning a business, etc? |

From the "guidebook for foreign spouses of Korean nationals" (page69):
General standard of sojourn permission
◦ If there is a need to confirm whether the couple live together or not, we
could demand attendance of Korean spouse before granting visa extension
◦ The holder of Residency status(F-2-1) is not restricted from employment
activities.
The foreigner in F-2-1 status can enjoy nearly full access to job opportunities in Korea.
However, employment is not allowed for F-1 status holders whose aims are to divide
property or settle household affairs
You can't own or work in a brothel , or in certain political or security related occupations.

That is interesting. Explains the advertisements I've seen for jobs asking for F-2 applicants only. Thanks for the help, that really clarifies things.
But no brothels? I've gotta taken citizenship for that or an F-5?

An F-2 is insufficient to teach English.
You will still need paperwork done, an F-5 on the other hand ...
I have an MoE telling me I better get the F-5 in order, because on the F-2 I have to fulfill the paperwork. |

Do you have an F-2 or an F-2-1? I've been reading that they are apparently different and what he seems to have quoted above in the F-2-1 not the F-2. |

ummm.... that is "jump through the MOE" hoops... it has nothing to do with immigration. |
