my apartment has come down with a serious case of mold. it started dripping down my wall a few days ago and has continued to grow, leaving a very large stain on the wall - it basically looks like a waterfall of brown water has been pouring down my wall. i'm guessing it's coming from some kind of pipe that's leaking inside the wall and it also looks like the landlord knew about this problem with the past tenant and failed to fix it. i don't want to just let the situation pass as my apartment has come down with a lot of problems that the landlord said it wasn't going to have and i'm just tired of dealing with it.
so my question is, if he doesn't really fix it, what are my options? can i just move out (and get my deposit money back)? or am stuck with the agreement even though i was told there were no problems and i haven't done anything to bring about the mold, etc.? any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. |

My landlord stripped the wallpaper treated the concrete with some chlorine, then treated it with some kind of anti fungus spray, then painted the wall with some kind of sealant, put up some new wallpaper.
He also fixed something on the roof that was causing water to drain into the wall.
Mold is not a healthy thing, so if you think you have a cold right now it probably is a reaction to the mold, you should notify your landlord and your co-teacher (handler, director).
I know a guy that ended up in the hospital with a mildew lung infection.

get it seen to by your boss right now. Say you are not feeling well, and dont think you can continue living there until its fixed. A few shitty lessons might help convince them of this.
It spreads very quickly and will continue to do so. Also check all your clothes for mold.
My school workman and landlord stripped 2 walls and used chemicals. Check below the flooring too. |

good advice there. i'm going to talk to the landlord as soon as i get home tonight and also take some pictures. i should mention, however, that i found my own housing (obviously didn't do a very good job of it...) and so i don't think i can rely on my manager to help me out very much in this situation. if the landlord doesn't want to do anything, though (as he apparently didn't want to before), should i just take it upon myself to try to fix the problem or is he obligated to do something? |
