I am just curious what hotels/ motels/ other are good to stay in when travelling Thailand. Any advice from seasoned travelers would be much appreciated! |

Khao San Road.
Stay here for the whole time you're in Thailand.
You won't regret it. |

Jeff and this is helpful how? unless you are subletting your house and could post the rates?
If you don't really know, don't really answer.
Sorry having a moment with unhelpful people in my life but I still stand by my comment. |

Location, location, location. Thailand is pretty big. It also has many destinations. Where in Thailand?
In a nutshell, the lowest end places (either bamboo huts w/possible WC, or shared, or a concrete box) will run you about 500-700baht. The upper limit is...?? Realistically, most places by the beach (on or a few meters away from) will be closer to 1000-1500 per night, especially during the high season (right about now till the end of Feb). You might get lucky and find some places about 800/night, but again that depends where you go.
Phuket/Krabi/Samui, fuggedabout pinching it (~1000/night for the cheap places). Northern side of Phangan (away from Hadrin) and some places on Koh Lanta Koh Tao, Koh Chang, Koh Samet about 800 and up unless you're slumming it.
Just to give you a perspective-- I went to Koh Lipe in the far south-west, near Malaysia, in Dec 2006. Found an OK place, WC and fan for 400/night. Went last year the same time, price went up to 750. No renovations, no nothing. The owner remembered me (well, my Korean gf), was all smiles to see us (her) again, and told us the new price w/a straight face. We were disappointed. It ain't getting any cheaper there.
The further away you are from the 'main beaches', ie smaller coves and destinations on the islands, the cheaper (and more basic) accomodations you'll get. I have no idea about the mountains, I'm a sea person. |

Yeah the developers are getting into every Koh and the prices are rising. You`ll always hear, "oh you should have come or seen here 10 years ago." On Samui, I would recommend the "Library" if you`re going with someone special and want a truly fantastic experience. It`s pricy and on Chaweng but utterly gorgeous. |

If you're in Chiang Mai, I suggest Julie Guesthouse. Its a cute little place with clean fan rooms and a serve-yourself beer cooler in the lobby. You can get great pad thai for breakfast for about $1. They have a website if you search Julie Chiang Mai. Check it out. |
