why are you connecting your laptop to your t.v.?
do you want to use your t.v. as a monitor to do computer work?
if so, I don't know how
do you want to watch a movie from your laptop to your t.v.?
what I do is after I connect my computer and t.v. together all I get is my wallpaper on t.v. then I start up a movie using VLC media player and the movie plays on my t.v. |

Start the movie, hopefully in VLC and it should show up full screen on the TV.
If it doesnt, then drag the VLC window across to the TV and you should see it, from there you might need to double click to make it full screen.
easy as. |

| You can change the preferences of a dual screen monitor if you right click on the desktop and go to 'preferences' |

When you see your wallpaper on the tv, can you move your mouse over there, if so simply drag vlc player over and double click it |

totally depends on your laptop, for mine Fn+F2 = wireless On.
If you can see your desktop on the screen (wallpaper whatever) then move your mouse over to see if u can see that too...most likely you can. then drag the media window over to it.
it does work. |

Right click the desktop.
Click properties
click settings
click advanced.
You need to tell your video card to "mirror" rather than "extend".
I have done it with ATI cards that use ATI Catalyst Control Centre software. The video card software needs to be set right.
Sorry I can't help more. |

| Some of the CRT TV's, for some reason, won't play videos from the s-video cable. The wall paper and computer window shows up, but when you fire up a video player it won't show on the TV. Not sure why. |

thanks guys for all your help - I got it. Stupid really. My mouse pointer wasn't visible on screen so I assumed it was not available to me - actually it was way off screen and I was able to bring it up eventually by rolling the mouse for longer than I thought I had to - I think the first time I rolled it a few times and gave up assuming something else was at fault. Then I could follow the previous posters instructions.
