I recently decided I really hate teaching EFL to Korean elementary/middle/high school kids in public schools and hagwons and don't want to do it anymore. Anybody have other suggestions for what I can do for a job?

In Korea? Wherever you are from? What are you interested in? Could you be any more vague? I wouldn't hire you should I be in the position to do so.

Obama's gonna create 2.5 million jobs rebuilding America's infrastructure. Do you like construction work?

Why not just go back to your country and apply for any and every job you come across? The numbers are on your side and someone will eventually hire you. Think of the opportunity for personal growth from interviewing for jobs during the Bush Global Depression Era.

Want to stay in Korea? Try teaching adults and/or university students.

The most irritating thing about teaching children, no matter where they are, is classroom management. Not far behind that is catering to their gerbil-like attention spans. Teaching an older crowd means that the first is a non-issue and the second is drastically reduced. It's a completely different ball of wax, and can be a real pleasure.

true, but I teach university freshman. I am done with the apathy. I'd be careful saying the grass is greener there.

Sure the job is largely a waking nightmare, but then so are most other things. Life basically consists of work and complaining about work relieved by nightly periods of unconciousness and sweet, sweet death. Most people seem to have got used to this.

Then go back to where you came from.

I don't like it when people don't put some effort into teaching children.
They are humans and not GOATS.. ~ baby goats are kids.

I love my students, dispite some of the glaring problems in the school system.

Make classes fun, and for $%ck's sake do more than just English in the classroom. Do some English art projects, or something where you are using the Target language to complete a task. It will really work.

Ah, such nice people around these parts. Good for you! You're wound-up tight, EFL-god.

Whilst teaching is not my dream job, it's certainly a lot better than many things out there. Try scanning 20,000 legal documents into an industrial scanner and then checking the images one by one against the originals...or phoning people up to do market research and having abuse hurled at you down the phone whilst you sit there taking it for minimum wage.

I hate to be negative, but there is little point in ditching this life for something worse or mundane...I don't want to be in Korea forever, however I will only leave once there is a chance for me to pursue the kind of career I want... that pretty much means I have to be here until I have my debts paid off and some money in the bank. If you're already at that point and you know what goal(s) you want to pursue then go for it. Otherwise, you'll probably just be exchanging one situation that you're not entirely happy with for another.

Just my 2 cents.
