I wouldn't do a thing...that's the beauty. I'd just collect the cash and hire a manager to do the rest. Meanwhile I'd be travelling or playing ccomputer games.

I wouldn't hire Kiwis or Canadians, although I would interview them.

I would do the following:

1) Actually teach the students something
2) Treat all students and staff with respect.

Simple, really. Then I suppose some smart guy will say, "Why aren't you doing it?" Well, I was about to, but if you don't have 100% support, then forget it.

I can't even begin to answer this question.

If I was a Korean person I would learn Western ways of doing things, and treat my employees this way.

I don't care about the when in Rome bullsh*t. If your business is run for English and the basis of your business is your native speakers, for the love of god don't yank them around. Happy workers = happy money.

So Shawner you would do what you condem so many hagwon owners for doing, hence your right to complain about their shady practices has just lost much of its credibility... Laughing

Nicely done shawner...nicely done...

In all seriousness, owning a hagwon i would tend to use the famed and proved CM method stated earlier in this thread.

If I was to open a hawgwon, it would be as a business decision, not a "I want to teach the kids English" decision. Hawgwons require a lot of investment, in both time and money, and why do that unless you expect a return on your investment?

Want to invest in teaching kids? Become a teacher at a real school, where you see the kids everyday and have a real impact on their lives. This is why I teach at a highschool and not at a hawgwon or why I will never open a hawgwon. I would rather invest my money in other opportunities, and invest my time in teaching kids where it might make a difference.

It sounds like there's an interesting story behind this. Care to share it?

I don't remember complaining? If my boss wasn't around, that would be something to cheer about, not complain over.

Nothing really too much to share. A couple of us dudes were ready to go but you need support from family. Mr. Pink is right, it's a considerable investment and risk and sometimes that's a little scary.

Hey! Are you me? Too familiar. I finally gave up and told my wife if she wasn't going to support the idea of opening a real hagwon we're moving back to the states. Surprisingly, she was quite happy with that decision. She's had as much as she can take dealing with mothers of students.
