|
|
Yes, I could fly from a northern city like Detroit or St. Louis all the way to Florida RT for a rock bottom $200 after tax. That's equivalent to flying to Hongkong or Bangkok in distance from Korea. I'm getting all these flight deals in my email box since they think I'm living in Missouri do to giving a Missouri address to the airlines. Boy do they got steal deals, but of course, most Americans can't enjoy it due to economic hardships. Bargains are to be had on many things now since the free market is deflating on account of demand dropping like a hot rock as a result of economic crisis on a personal level for millions; not just for big companies. Last March, I flew from LA to St. Louis one way for only $121 after tax. Yes, I said $121 total cost for 2000 miles of flight. Why is that it's so expensive to fly to Tokyo, a short regional hop, from Seoul?
How do they make money in the West with such cheap rock bottom bargain deals? Why is Korea so expensive to fly out of as if you were requesting business class? If you're living in Korea and going on vacation where you buy the flight in Korea using Won, then you will be doing the Korean thing in the Korean market place. I think foreigners should be cut a break since the Korean market place is ridiculously meant specially for Korean customers in mind who don't have a clue like we do about business and economics such as how much services should cost and what options and rights you have as a shopper and customer. I'm not saying it should be $200 to fly RT to Bangkok, but $800 to $1200 is too much. $400 to $500 is more reasonable.
1.3 million won to Vietnam. 1 millino to Thailand. 650,000 to Hong Kong. And these are before taxes! Where do they get off quoting such high prices like the way they are doing now in Korea? This market is crazy for shoppers of all sorts. Screw this come next year, because it cost lots of money to eat here and fly outta such a not so fun place that is priced as if it was the worlds greatest place to dine, shop, and travel. I guess the Koreans are just too proud of what they have. They sure think they have a lot at such good prices. What a brain washed fart. |

I can't justify it but I'd imagine the fact that they are international flights may affect the cost.
And the cost that airlines have to pay to fly into certain airports: I would guess that Hong Kong is more expensive than St. Louis. That would drive up the ticket price too.
Why the difference is THAT great? Couldn't say. |

Dam skippy, Europe has shoestring budget regional service. They didn't yet have it like that back in the 90's when I lived out there, but I heard how they started doing this about 6 years ago. This a great way to make short hops and a huge time saver. A train from Rome to Paris can take like 15 hours and costs $200 to $300 for one way, but a flight might be only $50 for 45 minutes to an hour. It doesn't really matter than you'd miss the countryside as it's usually an over night train anyhow though the train saves on 1 night of room rental.
Europe is nice, if only it was easy for a non-E.U. citizen to live and work there.
Harpau, thanks. www.toptravel.co.kr also has an English inquiry form so I'll see what their reply is. |

Maybe the A-rabs aren't selling oil at cheap market value to Koreans.
...or MAYBE Korean airlines are gouging their customers with fuel surcharges that should be almost non-existent now with the cheap oil. But I can't see a Korean company raping their own people. |

You are welcome!
NB: The English enquiry form is not the same. If you book via an agent of Top Travel, you'll end up paying extra for a travel agent. If you want to save, then buy an E-ticket via the Korean site. Best of luck to you! |

Can a foreigner register on this site or does a registered Korean need to make the purchase for you? |

It's possible if you have an ARC card. You need to be able to navigate the Korean. I simply had one of my uni. students helped my out. I then thanked him by taking him out to a couple lunches down at the cafeteria.

Many new teachers don't have an ARC card when they first arrive. That's all I'm saying~ an ARC card is necessary. |

Funny, I was just helping a friend try to book a flight from Portland to Toronto for next June, and he couldn't find anything cheaper than $800. |

I think for international travel if you have a western credit card i think something like vayama.com or kayak is your best bet. vayama has some great deals (although i think you have to book at least 4 days in advance). though the exchange rate might suck i think its probably a better price option than going through a travel agent, certainly easier.
and although i haven't tried you might possibly be able to pay with your bank's atm card? |
