| WHY?! I understand if it's slightly under a round trip fare but I'm looking at some deals and they're twice as much. one way costs $1700 and rt costs $1000. What am imissing here? can I buy the rt and just use the first half? |

Because of yield management.
eg. you may have stumbled upon a discounted seat in one direction and a full fare seat on the other direction.
As flights book up, the airline computer sells seats for progressively higher prices.
If flights are not booking well, the computer dumps seats/capacity at lower prices.
Often times in places like Korea, it is entirely cheaper to buy return tickets, use it for 1 way, then throw it out, because of this quirk. |

Just be careful. Some airlines will penalize you for doing this. Google "throwaway ticket". |
