| It looks like I'll be teaching after school classes next year to help my middle school students gain admission to foreign language high schools. There are several of them in my immediate area, and they are quite competitive, so the teachers would like me to start the class in March and continue all the way into next November. I know absolutely nothing about the admission process, so what exactly do I need to help them with? Reading comprehension, speaking, writing, listening....but anything more specific that the schools look for? Can you recommend some good books to use? |

there are a number of books (in korean however) with mock test questions in. there is a listening component with multiple choice (but again some of the guidelines or answers are in korean, so get them to help you). they also test reading comprehension using cloze tests as well as multiple choice comprehension answers. the books themselves usually have answer sheets in them.
to be honest a native speaker is NOT needed for this test at all - many FLHS's have already dropped the face to face interview component, so this test is all they have to do. all you will be doing is pressing stop and go on the CD player. the tests themselves require lower order thinking and the construct validity of the assessments are AWFUL - so awful that native speakers only get aboout 80% of the questions right. |
