how many weeks are you teaching during the winter break?

on a side note... do school boards normally assign limits to how much camp their foreign teachers do? and if your school wants to run an extra class during the break, can you say no?
last year my school asked me, i said no, then they said they thought i'd be bored so i had to. Shocked are people usually given a choice about extra classes during the break? and in your experiences, if i said i must have a co-teacher with me during the extra classes, would they do that or just cancel them? hypothetically, of course

I'll be working every day that isn't part of my official vacation, unless I'm told otherwise (very unlikely). Works out to about 4 weeks of camps (18 working days to be exact).

Same thing happened in Summer vac, worked every day that wasn't part of my official vacation. 2.5 weeks of camps (or 13 working days to be exact)

I can't answer the poll just yet. I'm doing either 2 or 3 weeks. Funding is set it's just a matter of how many students and thus how many classes.

*update*

I've been 'asked ' to teach 3 classes a day in the mornings from Dec 29th to Jan 30th. That is straight after two weeks of two or three extra afternoon classes to do a Winter camp in term time so the Korean teachers have the whole vacation off. I'm going to be busy!

Unfortunately the term dates at my school don't leave a block of 7 days vacation. So I've 'asked' when my vacation days are going to be. I've been lucky in the past and received full vacations.

I will be getting OT 30/class for the term time stuff same as the Korean teachers and 60/student for the vacation stuff.

You can't say no. If they do send a coteacher along, it will seriously burn your ass to know that the coteacher is getting what should be your money. It's in the contract that you work during school vacation. You can't say no.

what money? as i understand it (from what my old school did last year), they won't be paying me anything extra even though they call these classes "extra" and the students undoubtedly pay for them. money may be going to my co-teacher if i persist with this issue, but why should i care, it's not like there's the possibility of the money going to me instead.

Maybe I'm the only one who got angry about my coteachers not doing anything... summer camp just rubbed it in more. She didn't actually do anything AND she got extra money. God, I was pissed!

You will have to do a camp if your school says so. Elementary schools have longer camps, and you can usually negotiate with your school a little bit about how long.

If this is your second contract, then the camp will be significantly shorter as they will owe you home leave or more vacation.

I voted 1 week.

I have a 3-day camp, 9 working days of mornings only (the after-school program moved to 9-12) and the rest is mine Very Happy Public elementary school, btw.

Not sure where you got this one from. I don't believe it is true though! If you mean you get the same students for longer, maybe, but middle school will eat up the same amount of your time (all of it that isn't your official vacation) in my and my friends' experience.
