Some of you having been here for a number of years, probably have a good sense about the most important basic language skills..
I am looking for a basic list of core learning areas for beginning ESL students. I would like to hear anyone's top five or top ten.
I am not talking about strategies, or lesson ideas or anecdotes. I am just thinking about a list of core skills a student should have in order to move forward in their learning.
The list should not be in order of importance, but rather should paint a picture of completely equipped basic learner.
Maybe only one or two or three come to mind. Please share your thoughts.
1. Asking basic questions (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How)
2. Giving directions on a map
3. Describing things with adjectives (and adverbs?)
4. Time phrases, and telling time
5. Using western numbers, years, ages, prices
6. Talking about the weather, environment
7. Expressing feelings and condition
8. Buying and Selling language
9. Health and Body
10. Talking about Relationships (friends, family)
11. superlatives (good, better, best)
12. subject verb agreement
Thanks for you input in advance! |
