I will be changing jobs in around three months time. I was hoping to give my boss a month's notice. However I need the certificate of employment asap. How do I get this?...and is it possible to get it without first asking my current employer?

If I have to tell her now that's ok but I'd rather leave it till a month before starting the new job.

Thanks.

Most (if not all) places are not in the habit of producing a certificate of employment unless you ask for it. Rolling Eyes

My school gives a certificate of employment every year when I renew it along with the other documents for immigration and for whatever reason immigration never wants to keep it. They look at it and hand it back. Not sure if they could issue you one or not. It depends if you need an employment history, or a record from where you are currently employed. As for giving a months notice, keep in mind that when you apply for a new position they usually call your most recent school to ask about you before they call you for an interview. I would suggest you let your boss know so they don't hear about it from a prospective employer.

if you are at a ps, just ask the person in the office, they know what it is and give them all the time - not a biggie

if you are at a hakwon, they might ask about it - so nosy! - just say it's for a bank - again - they are not a big deal - common for businesses to ask - actually if you are getting a credit card you probably need one so there you are - just say that!
