Hello all,
I will be traveling to Thailand in February and I was wondering what the best methods of traveling around the country are. Specifically, I would like to know what the best method of getting from Bangkok to Phenom Pehn (Cambodia) is, and the best way of getting from Bangkok to Krabi. Is there a reliable train system? Bus system? How much should I expect to pay for a ticket from Bangkok to Krabi? Bangkok to Phenom Pehn?
Thanks |

If you're going overland, taking the train can be pretty slow. If you have time though, go for it. I think there's one to the Cambodian border, but it's easier to book a minibus (way faster and fairly cheap). Unfortunately, there's no train on the Cambodian side of the border so you have to take an excruciating bus journey to Angkor Wat/Siem Reap. That is one of the most brutal bus rides I've been on. Slow and bumpy in an old run down Korean(!) bus. From there you can either take a bus (on much better roads) or ferry to Phnom Penh. I think there's a train from SR to PP but I haven't heard much about it. Rest assured it'll be slower than Thai trains. Going from Cambodia to Thailand was like going from a dirt poor 3rd world country to a ultra modern paradise, especially transportation-wise.
From Bangkok to Krabi, you can take a train to Surat Thani (overnight or a bit longer) and then take a bus. Or you can fly. Domestic Thai airlines have pretty reasonable rates and you can book directly from their website. I flew Air Asia and it was good. |
