|
|
It's my own fault. I checked my mail on Saturday and discovered a letter from the tax office requiring a tax form to be completed and sent out to them by June 1st. It's June 8th now and I'm on vacation.
Should I get on it ASAP? Am I too late to avoid paying penalties? |

Are you an American?
Is it the IRS you're wondering about? If so, here:
Whether or not you will incure a penalty depends on whether you owe money to the IRS. If you don't owe money, then there is no penalty for filing late (through I would still file ASAP). If you do owe money, then there will be a penalty. I'm not sure what the penalty is though.
If not, hopefully someone else will chime in. |

Thanks for that. Actually, it's the Korean government(NTS) that sent the letters. I usually don't check my mail as it's full of spam but they sent me two letters and I'm afraid the latter might be a penalty. I'm down the country now and I'd prefer not to have to sort this out until Wednesday. |

I think the best thing to do is give the office that sent it to you a call and see if you can somehow be granted an extension. Explain the situation and hopefully it works out for you. If not, it's just a penalty and it's just money |
