I heard you can now easily work at public schools during the day in Korea if you are working in the evening at a hagwon. Is this true? What is needed to do that if it is true? Do you need to sign some kind of year contract with the public school?

I do it. I'm working at a public elem school from 9:00am to 12:10pm. When we first started talking about working they assumed I had an E-2 visa. Didn't seem to be a problem for them. Course when they learned I was on an F-5 they were truely happy.

From what i've heard, and it could be inaccurate, but once you sign on as a PS teacher you are considered a public sector worker, and as such you are unable to work a second job; of course that is legally.

It would be nice if this was a lot more consistent on what can and cannot be done. Every time I try to find this out, half the people say it's legal, the other half say it's illegal, another half says it's both, and then half yell at me because my math skills are atrocious, especially when it comes to percentages.

It seems hard to get information. The government is short on teachers and wants some people who work at hagwons to work at public schools, because we don't know that entails, so we aren't going to be encouraged to do that to get extra money, if we don't know the details. I suppose the government expects foreigners to have special psychic powers.
