technically it's still Thanksgiving in America. I bought my Thanksgiving dinner at the Red Door. I got a 3lb Butterball turkey breast, DelMonte green beans, StoveTop stuffing, pie crust and canned pumpkin. I'll make mashed potatoes and gravy too. Laughing

I know that this is kind of pitiful (exorbitant prices), plus I like to cook and typically use as many fresh things as possible, but I really had to improvise here.

Did anyone hit up one of the buffet dinners around Seoul? If you did, where and how was it? It's just for future reference at Christmas. Thanks!

It was 22,600w for the cajun turkey breast. She had a medium size whole bird for around 35,000, but I don't have the resources to cook that Sad .

Altogether I will have invested around 45,000w for the dinner, but it is worth it to me to share this with my gf. She likes whatever I cook, so I can't go wrong there Very Happy .

Not a bad deal. I wish Costco sold ones cheaper than 60,000, but that's Costco I guess. Sad

Sorry, this is kind of "off subject" but...why is it that you don't have the resources ? Are you in a "school supplied" apartment and they don't have cooking appliances ? Or am I totally reading too much into the answer and you just don't have a way...?

Sorry to be so nosey...I'm curious more so to know if the apts the schools provide at least have the bare essentials for cooking (stove top, oven) for example.

mss,

Most people in Korea don't have ovens like we do in North America. The schools provide the standard two burner stove top that use gas and that's it. However, you can go and buy a small convention oven for less then 100,000 won at either HomePlus or EMart. I believe that is what Esetter meant by not having the resources to cook that (big of a bird).

It's cool that people actually found turkey breast in Korea. I've been wondering about that. No turkey for me this Thanksgiving. Oh well!

Yes indeed, it was the boneless turkey breast roast. I have one of the larger toaster/convection oven things. The whole turkey probably would have fit, but I don't think it would cook that well in it.

I will add that everything came out quite well. I had my Thanksgiving dinner after all. Smile

We had the USO Thanksgiving lunch/dinner. For just under $14 each. Ham AND Turkey, dressing, mashed potatos, giblet gravy, mixed veggies, Lipton tea, brown and serve rolls, cranberry sauce, corn on the cob, candied yams, pumpkin pie (with whipped cream) or apple pie. Sweeeet!

Yes, I needed to make a trip to Seoul if I was going to have the stuff to cook or get in on Thanksgiving buffet. I have the large oven and full kitchen, but couldn't find a turkey, canned pumpkin, dressing, nor cans of Bruce's yams. Like myself, many just wrote it off as a loss for making the decision to live outside the USA. Since, nothing is available outside of Seoul, except in Busan there's the Seamans Club, I'm just going to take myself to Seoul on a bus for Christmas since I'll have the time to go for that holiday.

Wow, that 15 hour time difference screwed with me trying to call home. While they were having Thanksgiving dinner, I was either sleeping super early Friday morning or going to work. By the time I went to sleep Thursday night, it was only 7 O'clock Thanksgiving morning back home so needless to say, I didn't call home, but I will on Christmas.

I'm just thankful I have a job, my health, money in the bank, a roof over my head, food to eat, and a nice paid vacation coming up. Smile
