I'm spending the holidays in Canada surrounded by a bunch of christmas consumers obsessed with buying, buying, buying. I don't know why I'd think it would be any different. I guess this year I'm not into "the magic" and the spirit. Visiting family and friends is the only good part - but again: they're all about gifts and squabbles and....... bah, humbug.
How's living in Korea over the holidays? Do you really wish to be back home?
The grass may be greener, but not as much as expected. |

I haven't been in Canada for 7 xmas's now. I don't miss the cheesy xmas music, the millions of xmas specials on tv and I especially don't miss the commercialization of xmas.
The only thing I miss is champagne and OJ in the morning with the family and all the wonderful food that poors out of my mom's kitchen during the day.
Oh well, at least I have a turkey for myself |

Exactly why I became a "non-participant" several years back. Long ago, I became disgusted with what Christmas had become. |

Christmas is a retailers paradice, and we've all been duped with the "love your family" propaganda. I love my family all year round. However I like the chance to get together and the good food, just don't like all the consumer bull that goes with it. Sinse me and my brother grew up we just do very small presents now, focusing on interesting things or things you made or found on your travels rather than expensive stuff ... |

The overspending and in your face consumerism is a turn off here, but I do enjoy the little moments and some of the window dressing of the season. And Boxing Day is going to be great. |

I think Koreans should learn about Boxing Day.... I reckon they would take to it, and it would be a nice counter for the commercialistic jingoism that is modern Christmas in Korea. |
