Hey all. I'm going to be starting a job at a public elementary school once my visa is approved. Simply because I'm curious, I was wondering what the differences are with respect to elementary, middle, and highschools. Which require more prep time? Do some have more vacations than others? Are class sizes generally the same? I guess I'm just excited about the new job and wonder what to expect.
A side note: I wrote this message on my new iPod touch. What a great toy. 한글 있어!! |

you have to remember all schools will be different; even between elementary schools in a city, there will be variation in what you're expected to do and your workload. although if i had to generalize based on what the majority of people have told me about elementary schools (i've only ever taught middle school over here) it's that you follow the book, almost no prepping is needed for class, sometimes you're a fancy tape recorder, and there is more co-teacher involvement due to the age of the kids |

Prep time really depends on what our responsibilities are at your school. You could have a coteacher that does everything for you, or you could be left to come up with the entire curriculum yourself.
I think middle/high school get more days off due to exams. However, your school might still make you come in during those days, even though you have no classes. |

although if your school has separate examination days for the different grades (ex. middle school 3rd graders write their final exams about a month before 1st and 2nd do), they can just rearrange your schedule so you still teach a full load. |
