Hey,
Am planning a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia for the x-mas break. What is the best way to do this? I only want a flight to and from and plan on other means of transportation to get from one country to another. Is it better to fly into Cambodia or Vietnam then travel to the other? Is this realistic within 11 days? Any advice is greatly appreciated. |

| A lot of people take a bus from Saigon to Phnom Penh or the other way. Not sure how long it takes. 5-7 hours? I guess visas are easily obtained. |

Fly into Hanoi. Head down the coast to Hoi An/danang maybe Nha Trang onto HCMC. 5 days. 2 days HCMC. Overland to Phenom Penn. But what about Siem Reep for Anchor Watt? Fly back here from there, or back to Hanoi for a return flight. 11 days is do-able, but you will be on the move most of the time. Or cut out the coast of Vietnam and fly from Hanoi to HCMC. Internal flights about 80 bucks.
The Mekong overland crossing between Vn and Cambodia is easy. Lots of travel agents in Pham Ulaow (SP?) in HCMC will sort out the trip from HCMC to Phenom Penn. It's dirt cheap. they run every day. They'll get your visa. It takes around 6 hrs boat and bus.
Enjoy, they're both fabulous and IMHO a trillion times more interesting that here. |

Right now, Asiana is offering nonstop ICN-Phnom Penh for about 420+tax (650 total price) for December flights, and that's pretty good. It's a bit more for a direct flight to Siem Reap. Not sure about VN. (Check out tourexpress.co.kr) Remember that you'll need 3 visas, not 2-- One for your entry, one for the second place, and another to re-enter your first place (assuming you'll fly in and out of the same airport). Both countries have single visas only.
For 11 days, you'd be better off sticking to one country. Cambo has plenty to offer-- SR with Angkor, PP markets/genocide museum/prison, Sihanoukville beaches and islands, Kampot hiking, etc) VN even more. Do you really want to be doing that much running around in 11 days?
Sounds too much like a Korean whirlwind tour for me.... |

Siem Reap Airways has fares from HCMC to Siem Reap for $50 each way. However, because it's an international flight, you pay more for the fuel surcharge. I bought 2 RT tickets for January, HCMC-SR, for $308 USD.

| Thanks for all the advice; Figured North Vietnam would be a bit too cold and think I'm either going to go strait into PP (especially if the Asiana airlines deal goes through) or fly into HCMC and then travel into Cambodia that way. |

| Just a word of advice...finding a good place to stay was a bit of a challenge for me. Some of the neighborhoods with hotels seem a little unsafe (not to scare you) but I stayed at a decent clean place that was nothing fancy. It's called the Green House and right across from it is the pickup to go to/from Vietnam. Hope that helps! |
