I've been saving like mad to get one of these. Are they available in Seoul yet? Price? Decent place to buy one?

I live way out in the boonies and even finding out if they are in SK yet is proving a wee bit tricky. Any info would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Probably going to be selling around 3,500,000...

I don't know if they are having them stocked yet, but I see them listed on the online auction sites for about that much.

I would recommend checking out one of those sites, I can't read Korean, so I'm not sure what they really say.

Prices will probably fall a few hundred in about 6 months if you can wait that long.

If I had the money, I would get it. Maybe in a year or two...

The other thing is, if your spending that much on a back and that nice of a sensor, you would want to spend just as much on the lenses. So it'd get really expensive quick. A equal lens for the system would be another 1,000,000 or more.

But share some 100% crops if you get it. It's a sweet camera.

---

On a separate note for Nikon users: There is a rumor of a new Nikon D400 that will be a response to the awesomeness of the 5D Mark ii.

---

Edit: Superdave has a lot of good advice on dslr. You can wait for him to post here, or search his name with dslr.

Thanks for the reply. You're bang on about the lenses ~ fortunately I already invested in "L" series glass so that's all taken care of.

I have the EOS 40D and think it's stunning, but always promised myself the full-frame body when I could afford it (and now that the 5D MK2 is out I think it will be as good as things get at that price point).

I held off buying the EOS 5D as I was aware of the dust and other issues, but the 40D cleaning system, upgraded on the 5D MK2, has been spectacular and with the addition of the DIGIC IV, the MP bump and the HD option I really can't keep my fast-depreciating won locked up in the Nonghyup vaults any longer.

I've checked out prices through http://www.omi.co.kr/search/view_00D.asp?GoodsList_No=0903&Goods_No=153861 and they seem to be settling around 3.5m won for the body. Ouch. But whatever, I've worked hard and (sort of) deserve it...

I'm looking to buy a 40D body if the price is right.

At Yongsan I can get it for about 650, maybe less.

If you're selling, let me know.

Yeah, the camera seems to have everything. And considering its specs and features is a pretty good deal.

Thats awesome you already have "L" glass. I'm not on a canon system now, but eventually I would like to switch over...maybe for the mark ii, but I wont be able to afford that for awhile.

And to verve, He'd probably want to keep his 40D as a secondary body...just guessing...

I'm going to hold onto mine as a second body, but thanks for the suggestion.

i dont care for the current exchange rate.

$2700US vs 3.35M korean won is not justifiable..

Yeah, its a bummer, as well all can agree on, i'm sure.

But sadly the actual ex. rate (for 2700 usd) as of this morning would be 3,982,300.00 won. So it's actually less expensive here in some weird way.

The price of the camera will drop in about 6 months or less. But really at that price it's not so bad for the brand new technology (if you have the money that is). The next step up for a full frame sensor would be more than twice that much.

hey woody ...

seriously ... why would you get one?? you can spend half that on a body and invest the rest on good glass.

in 2 years, that camera is going to be worth virtually nothing. but good f2.8 lenses will still be worth their weight in gold.

i don't mean to be adversarial, but too many people are getting caught up in the 'hype' around camera bodies ... they're not worth the investment. especially if you're a hobbyist or amateur photographer who can't justify the spend if there's no return for your dollars.

i dropped $1200 on my D200 about a year ago. while it would be nice to get a D300, D700 or D3 ... it's not worth it. just bells and whistles. my camera works just fine ...

canon has other good cameras. pick up something for under $2k and spend the rest on solid lenses. in 10 years, those lenses will still be fantastic ... regardless of the body you're using at the time.

***

hey swigs ... thanks for the mention ... you knew it wouldn't be too long before i poked my head in here! Wink

as for the D400 rumours ... yeah, it's an interesting idea. however, i still stand by what i said above. the camera wars are getting ridiculous. big companies are introducing new bodies every 6 months.

they've finally tapped into a method to fleece the consumer market dry ... keep releasing upgraded bodies with slight modifications. it's like the car market ... change the bumpers and call it a new model.

settle with a good camera that will do what you need. don't buy into the fanboy garbage relating to camera bodies.

what IS interesting to note is that how few new lenses are coming out. except for adding vibration control to lenses, there's very little new technology or advances.

that's proof that lenses are already great kit ... and is where all $$$ should be spent.

my $0.02!

Smile

cheers
