|
|
| For the past 7 years, I have escaped part of the cold Korean winter to lay on sunny beaches in the tropical parts of Asia. Well, now the exchange rates prohibit that. I could buy my ticket with my American credit card, but buying US dollars is out of the question. I would imagine many of us here are curtailing our plans this winter due to the exchange rate. |

Korea now has one of the weakest currencies in Asia. When were getting $0.66 USD for every 1000 won, our vacations abroad are going to be very limited. |

10 days in Guam baby! ... I'll just skip the luxury hotels and fancy restaurants, limit the unnecessary shopping and spend more quality time on the beach. |

| no beach in thailand this winter $50/60 nite hotels are too expensive. this winter its Chiang Mai by train and slow boat to Luang Prabang staying in $15/nite guest houses instead of flying those legs and staying in $30-40 midrange places. also cutting back from a month-6 weeks to 2-3 weeks |

| I think blaming the economy for not being able to take a holiday is quite a stretch. I waste all my cash and with one pay I can afford a holiday to Thailand or the Phillipines. Places are so cheap in Asia so how could the exchange rate ruin your plans unless you have a big family to take? |

I'm going to Bali for 15 days:
Airfare - W1,000,000
Beach resort (Tuban/Kuta) - W1,000,000
It costs next to nothing once you're there. |

Just spend more if you want it that bad. I would think after 7 years, you have 50,000,000 to 80,000,000 won saved up so you can afford 400,000 to 800,000 won more for a needed and well deserved Winter vacation for all your 7 years of teaching in Korea.
Just do it if it means that much. I assume it does since you're telling us. Cheers. Have a good Winter break. |

I've been to Muju, and it wasn't bad. It was a bit crowded, but good. Be sure to get to the resort before about 7:30. The traffic going in can be bad if you go in later than that.
I'd like to next try the resort that's between Seoul and Sokcho. Considering I'll get only 1/3 the vacation this year I did last, I'll check out the Korean ski scene. No leaving SK this year until my contract ends or I do a runner. Time to hit the slopes. |
