How is this area? Looks like the last stop on the #1 subway line. |

I was just up there as we had a job interview in the area and it looked nice to me...the population is like 400,000 so you'll find plenty of foreign restaurants and whatnot, won't need to go into the city for most shopping.
Of course if you're set on living in Seoul proper then Uijeongbu is definitely not it. But as far as suburban cities go it seems nice....the good thing is that it's close to the city and also close to the proper countryside/mountains.
That being said, I was only there for a few hours, but I'd live there in a heartbeat. |

It's not a long subway ride to downtown anyways, maybe 30-40 minutes, and you'll have Dobongsan mountain nearby if you like hiking! |

I have lived in Uijeongbu for a couple of years and think that it's pretty good, it's close to Seoul and offers good transport options. It's not the last stop on line one but it is on line one.
There are a lot of foreigners here, a lot of them being US army so there are always people to speak to in a mutitude of bars. There's not so many foreign resteraunts though but you can get a steak when desperate. The shopping overall is pretty good. Everything is probaly a bit cheaper than in Seoul but not by much.
If you want to ask some specific questions I would be happy to help out. |

I have'nt heard of Avalon in Uijeongbu, but there was a thread a while ago about it somewhere else I think. Do you know what area it is in?
Appartments are ok I guess but smaller than you are probaly used too. Depends on which area you are in.
There area lot of good bars around here and a lot of foreigners out on friday and saturday nights, a large number of US serice people. I've never been to the juicy bars though. |

Cell phone shops are literally everywhere but I think you still need a Korean sponsor to get an account. The Hagwon will be able to help you out with that one.
All of the major banks have branches here, but get one close to work to make life easier. Probaly the best ones are KEB, KB Woori bank but there are others. Most have staff who can speak enough English to get you through any transaction.
Buying clothing can be a bit hit an miss though if you are outside of the regular Korean sizes. If Korean sizes fit then it is really easy and pretty cheap. |

Considering a PS job there, not sure about the area yet. I'm hoping that i can get a nice apartment with everything i need in walking distance. If that is the case, i will probably pursue it. |

Most appartments are small snd single room if you are single. This is pretty standard everywhere in Korea, but it is the individual schools that provide them so it is the luck of the draw. Mostly in Uijeongbu, as with most other larger towns/cities there are always losts of stores etc. There is a good public transport system here though and its pretty cheap if you need to travel to another part of town. |
