혻 혻 SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Yonhap) -- Cuts of imported U.S. beef have been selling like hotcakes since hitting shelves at major South Korean discount outlets, with sales reaching over 200 tons in just four days, industry sources said Sunday.
혻 혻 The country's top three retailers -- E-Mart, Homeplus and Lottemart -- said their combined sales of U.S. beef reached 205.4 tons as of Sunday afternoon. |

Had some last night. The wait at my local homeplus store was about 3 ahjumas deep, (remember, that there are no lines, only people stacked along the butcher's counter) and this held steady for my time there. |

I stocked up on delicious US beef at the weekend. Great price. Great taste.
There seemed to be a lot of interest in the US beef at my local Homeplus when I was there, but not a lot of buying......except from me!!! |

Forgive me if I seem idiotic for asking this, but this American beef that the stores are now selling, is it labeled "American" somehow? I was in my local Homeplus yesterday and checked out the beef selection and there was nothing indicating US beef anywhere.
What would I look for? I know the Aussie beef (the prepacked stuff anyways) has an Aussie flag in the upper corner. Is it the same deal with the dangerous, killer American cattle? |

Dang, this country does like to eat. When it has the food, it'll eat and get fat like America does. Korea just hasn't had much due to import restrictions, low domestic food production, and high prices so this keeps most people slim, but that's all changing now that the import market is opening up more and more. More imports are slated to have tariffs removed from them which means more food in Korea. Korea wants to eat and is ready to start eating food that anyone else might find tasty such as steaks, lasagna, ham, and many other things we so want available.
I would imagine in the next couple years, limited food selection will not be such an issue with teaching in Korea that's it's been. Well, we have more this year than last year and those who've been her years claim you couldn't even get peanut butter 10 years ago. You still have to really look in the big cities to find things though. |

Just had some US beef and it definitely tastier than korean or Auzzie beef.
Hooray for free trade.
Hooray for the first competition Korea has every known! Lower prices DO help the customer. And in these tough economic times it's no wonder that the majority of people have forced the big companies to actually bring in something that will lower prices. Everyone has to live, and many of us really need US beef.
I guess we won. |

Bought some at E-mart yesterday, will cook it tomorrow with the red wine I got last month and the fresh french bread I'll pick up in the morning.
Looking forward to it. |

Maybe the US beef was sold out. Koreans LOVE US beef and have been buying all they can get their hands on- just read the article posted by the OP! |

Look for the words 미국산 on the sign by the beef in the display shelf or on the label if it's packaged. |

I was in Emart tonight and allt hey had were those thin sliced pieces of meat. I asked about thick steaks, "like VIPs," I stated. She said, "oh, VIPs steak," and then asked the guy in the back who pulled out a big slab of beef and cut me off 2 steaks to my specifications. Each one turned out to be about W6000 and well worth it. |

I went to Homeplus and it had big signs over it as well as signs on the freezer that announced it as, "US BEEF: IT TASTES BETTER." |

Emart had a 5 inch tall black banner that ran along the top of their enclosed meat case that read: US Beef. It just runs the length of the display where theUS beef is, not the rest of the case. |

I cooked up some of those thin slices yesterday (after marinating them in soy sauce and rice wine), and they were soooo good! My mouth is watering just thinking of it. I can't wait to make more tonight. Maybe I'll get some red wine to marinate them in. Anybody wanna share their recipes? |
