For those of you who have traveled Vietnam:
In January, if you had to choose two out of the three beaches (Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and Mui Ne) to spend time at, which two would you pick? What are the good and bad points of each?
Thanks |

Look them up online. They are all OK. It doesn't matter much, if it is a visit, you will enjoy. I liked Nha Trang and thought Mui Ne was cool too. Didn't go to the other one but heard good things, so I figure they're all good for a visit.
(I miss Vietnam despite a lot of Vietnamese being utterly crap people) |

| I like Nha Trang - was there in 2002. However, prices have gone up a lot since then. |

Depends what you want:
Phu Quoc is the most stunning of the 3 as it's the Gulf of Thailand as opposed to the China Sea. However, it is more difficult to get to and much less developed. Most people fly there otherwise its bus and boat. If you want a chill from it all, there are basic bungalows on the beach there for 10 bucks a night and a few restaurants on the beach to eat/drink in. There are also a few resort type places that are more expensive further along. The Vietnamese tourists there can be a bit annoying.
Mui Ne is closer to HCMC than Nha Trang, but you can catch an overnight train to NT and not to Mui Ne, you have to take the bus.
Mui Ne is sweet and has a beach bungalow feel to it whilst having some bars and restaurants to wander to.
Nha Trang is the most developed of the 3 and you can do watersports and diving etc. (You can get some watersports in Mui Ne but not as many) NT is a fully fledged resort with high rise, clubs, cheap-expensive hotels.
All 3 are worth the vist and the winter months provide the best weather. Enjoy! |

My vote is Mui Ne.
Less populated, more pristine. Diverse accomodations. Decent restaurants. There is also a small desert within 15 minutes by scooter. It was surreal. Right next to the sea... sand dunes all the way into the horizon. Just watch for the throngs of local kids who accost you to pay for their sliding matts, though. You can slide down the dunes if you have something to sit on...
I found Na Trang beaches to be downright filthy. Trash floating around as you swim, and used drug needles in the sand.
It was good for the nightlife, but that's it. |
