After my time in Korea, my way of thinking is even more Western that it used to be. I now understand why Western culture works.

I found that there was much to like about Korea. However, I believe that it is natural for most people in the world to prefer the culture and values that they are accustomed to. Modern Australia, for all its flaws, is far more coherent to me on many levels than South Korea. There is the small matter of all that high tech soapy stuff in public toilets, for example. Laughing

Korea has made me..

A lot more aware of my apperance.

Less tolerant of waiting (bali, bali)

More likely to bite my tounge then have a screaming hissy fit

More self reliant.

A drama queen. these 10 and half months have been interesting and full of action packed of incidents. I wonder if I will have withdrawl from dramas.

That's an interesting one. Korea also taught me self reliance. It's ironic, though, when most Koreans assume that you die of loneliness whenever you go shopping. Laughing

Three years in Korea, has certainly taught me to be tolerant of petty, whinging, buck passing people. I am a big bloke and having taxi drivers pat you on the belly and laugh when you climb in their cab does get tiring. This is a country that I do not think will ever wake up to itself and realise that the rest of the world thinks it is a joke. I still love the place though. I will appreciate Oz even more when my wife and I head home.

Being in Korea has allowed me to discern the difference between Chinese, Japanes and Korean sounds...sorry, but before I came here I couldn't tell the difference. Now, after visiting Japan and living in Korea and watching Chinese films...I can now hear the difference!

I am near the ends of both sides of your spectrum. I find that in my daily life I am very Koreanized to the point where I forget that I am a foreigner sometimes. On the other hand living here for a long time has brought a much better understand of what it means to be of a western tradition and this I do value too.
