So, less than two weeks to go. Papaerwork all sent to new public school. But old boss who wouldnt give degree, transcripts, release letter, or even a letter on proof of employment is giving hell.

My question is how have your past employers treated you before you left and how did you deal with it? This guys trying to give me a guild trip of school closing down, among other things.

Heck he had me sit in his office for 2 hours, even brought korean teachers in and tried to make me sign a new contract.

can schools let you go a day or to beforw contract ends and keep your severance, pension and other things?

Unfortunately, many try to do just that. If they know you're not staying, they'll either force you to break your contract, or just flat out fire you. I know some people who had this happen a day before their contract was up.

These days, the labor board is more aware of these kind of offenses, so if you ever feel threatened by your employer, you could bring up the fact that you're aware of your rights and that dealing with them would be much more painful that paying you out what you owe.

Don't let them pull a fast one on you.

NO! Schools are not allowed to fire you on the spot unless its for some serious (molesting, murder, theft etc) offense. It is Korean Law, look it up in the labor act on this site, that they need to give you atleast 30 days in advance or the equal amount in pay before they can fire you.

You are leaving a Hakwon I assume? It sounds just like what my old school tried with me. I got the guilt trip thing, and the you are such a great teacher that all of the students and parents love crap. I can't tell you how many of those office meetings going back and forth I endured before they finally relented and let me be.

Hell, I worked there for 2.5 years. I actually liked the school reasonably well and had students that I had taught the whole time that I had been there. I put my fair share of time in and it was time to move on.

After they let it go, they asked that I come and visit the students and come see the class that I was leaving graduate.

I got all of the money that was owed to me and left on as good of terms as possible, but I don't know that I will be back to visit anytime.

I did also see many teachers that were treated poorly after they had informed the school that they would not be returning for another contract. It's like they get offended or something. No one ever got screwed out of anything that was owed to them, however. Good luck!

Yes, it is a Hakwon. The guy may give me hell. I know I will move on to the public school system. I hope not as much drama goes on there.

After all the guy did against the law, he can't expect me to pay.

That and he wanted me to stay for less then a 1 way ticket home, no pension, and 9% tax. and 7 days off vs 10 required by law. Oh yea and I was to pay all my visa fees, health, and imigration fees.

And lose out on 300,000 resettlement fees too.

A thieving South Korean hogwan owner

No way!

I am generalising, but I don't expect your story in a Public School-my principal was sorry to see me leave as it was a rural area, treated me well and was happy when I visitted in late October.

Thieving pieces of crap hogwan owners, grow the hell up!

I did mention I was generalising, did I not? More often than not, I don't expect to hear that story at a Public School, but there's some older confucianist petty retards to be sure.

While you're having fun for the next couple of weeks rolling around in the dirt with this maggot, you might check with the taxman to make sure he's been paying into the system. Altogether possible he's been making deductions (and pension too) that never made it further than his greasy little inbred marsupial moneypouch. This is shockingly common.

If he hasn't been paying properly into the tax system, you might have a bit more ammo to riddle him with if you need to go to the labour board or whoever.

I bet all the money he gives you smells like him, too, doesn't it? Kind of wet and mildewy, with a hint of spite and ass-crack? I think I used to work for that subhuman muppet, or maybe it was his unclebrother.

(still a little steamed about hagwon bosses past, I am...) Evil or Very Mad

Anyways, I hope in your case this guy will give up and let you be after he realizes he's got nothing on you.
